Real friendly atmosphere in here today. Enjoy your Friday everyone!

And this is only day 1 of the partial lockdown.

My weans are already driving me mad (schools shut, no socialising, no playgrounds).

Everyone's worried about the virus death rate. It's the infanticide rate we should really be worried about!

That's fair enough. I honestly did intend it to be taken as a serious study. I should maybe have left off the bit at the end about the science chief's estimates. That said, I'd love to hear what sampling strategy they are using just now because, as you evidently know, just basing it confirmations of infection and people reporting illness is as deeply flawed as my approach haha.

I wonder if they are randomly testing people across London?

Iā€™m sure that the scientists and statisticians know what theyā€™re doing.

Seems to be a common theme on this forum - people thinking that they know better than the experts. Usually with regards to football managers and team selection, but good to see it applies to other areas of expertise as well!

The words you're looking for are 'Dunning-Kruger effect'. Also, I just said I'd love to hear what their strategy is (as it would be educational), not that I thought they were wrong. Scientists are always right, trust me. Anyway, I should get back to my science before the pub...

???

Why would we be the same person having a conversation with ourselves? What basis do you have for that claim? That would be odd behaviour in the extreme.

I agree, I wouldnā€™t put it past some internet trolls to resort to that, but that wasnā€™t what was going on here. Why would you jump to that assumption?

Listen, I don't go to any measures to hide who I am on here, and that's pretty obvious to anyone paying attention. Apologies for posting a lot of messages, but they were on the topic of the fucking thread, so calm the fuck down with the telling me to fuck off and calling me a cunt, eh?

The answer is in the statistics.....

I believe the "experts" advising the gov have some very good statistics and idea of who has what. If you think thay are making any of "that" information public I have a bridge to sell you. What is being made public is only done so as an attempt to control public attitudes and behaviour in a time of crisis. This strangely is not a criticism of Gov, it's in the nature of what they do and what they are - especially in times like this. (UK and Scottish).

I do happen to believe they are out in the estimate that seems to keep being quoted that we are "4 weeks" behind Italy - we are at bestĀ  2 - that miscalculation has and will continue to cause loss of life - It took the sporting bodies themselves to stop the farce of continuing matches (especially the old firm game) - gov should have banned them a week ago at least.

Universities are already starting to close\ semi-close without being told to - expect the Gov to about face and close schools sometime next week.

I'm broadly in agreement. Lots of info on social media in my area tonight. At least 2 Health Centres in Dundee closed now after staff testing positive and a local school with a parent positive. None of this on the news yet. It's exploding. Stay safe.

B/Ferry Health centre was one andĀ It includes the quote :

"A spokesperson for the centre said: ā€œDue to a number of positive cases of coronavirus linked to the practice, Broughty Ferry Health Centre has taken the decision to close to all patients from 5pm on Friday, 13 March."

That's less than 5 mins walk from me ! It's in the local evening paper.Ā

I'm putting the pair of you on ignore, can't be too careful.

I know one of the guys from the ferry who has had it and recovered. There is life after the virus. He has still got another fortnight off work though, they don't want him back too soon.

Why the fuck is sport relief still on bbc1

They've been endlessly reporting closures and proposed closures and is the response enough all week

Now pressing on with TV shows Inc live audience

Yeah, everything is the BBCā€™s fault, as usual.

I donā€™t know the size of the live audience, but I wouldnā€™t have thought that itā€™s that big. Iā€™m not sure why Coronavirus would lead to Sport Relief being cancelled?

It's not a computervirusĀ Ā but we're probably deserving of an ignore anywayĀ šŸ˜„

That's scary that you already know someone near us with the virus though.

Glad he's fine but it adds to the fact it's in our local area and more likely to spread here soon.

What would the size of the audience matter

They're all crammed in next to each other
