Fucking state of this: 30% of their wage is £500m and they're rationale is £200m already, maybe, goes to the tax man. The bollocks that their is no way to get it into the NHS too is plainly bullshit as pretty sure if footballers came out and said 'here's £300m where do you want it?' there's be loads of avenues. That's before even considering that 100% of their wage = £1.7bn! As perspective that = about 10% of the spending on the Scottish NHS annually which services a country of c.6million people. It's ok though they've delegated responsibility to the Premier League and although they're happy they've chucked £20m to the NHS these cheeky fuckers have the audacity to claim the PL should be doing more! I fucking hate Liverpool but always had a respect of how they were a community club. Nowhere in 'you'll never walk alone' though does it caveat it with 'unless the Tory based government we historically despise offers to pay 80% of your wages'. Be interesting to see Klopps reaction or if there's radio silence from him for the first time in years. Un fucking believable

On a separate note it would be beautiful if this virus brought a few EPL clubs down.

On point one; not me!

On the more important point, I think like in any industry, companies with the biggest reserves are those that will survive & (sadly) the bigger the club the greater the resources they have to fall back on. The teams who may well fold are those who are either currently overstretched or heavily reliant on matchday revenues to balance the books. Inevitably, the lower down the professional or semi-professional leagues you go, the more you're going to find that.

I'd be surprised to see any EPL side go bang, & especially not top half. Teams like Macclesfield, Bolton, Oldham were all teetering on the brink already & this might just be the death knell for them. One or two higher up the system have pushed the boat out to get promotion (Leeds are the obvious example where there was already talk of them hitting serious trouble if they fluffed it again this year) & they could have problems if the season is cancelled.

On the subject of Leeds, & much as I dislike them, credit is due to their players who I believe were the first in England to agree to defer wages in order to make sure non-playing staff were paid.

Burnley are pleading poverty according to that BBC article.

Stoke are lucky - all stadium staff are being paid for five months. Same as the Bet365 HQ that's areas biggest employer. Coates is old school.

EPL clubs are saying they are going to take a £750m hit as a result of lost TV Money and gate receipts.

Putting a transfer ban in place for a year would probably wipe that out - by which I mean players who move within a contract for a fee.  If they're still planning to complete the season - and I think that's unrealistic - then it's probably fairer that all clubs retain their current squads as much as possible.

I saw a good comment earlier to the effect that how can clubs justify furloughing non playing staff now and be prepared to shell out £20 million in the summer for a second-choice left back in the summer.

I really want to believe that this turns out to be the pin that bursts the bubble but the cynic in me doubts it.

I put it in the football section that only works out at 15% of annual revenue compared to companies who're writing off a quarter of the year

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/may/22/premier-league-finances-club-guide-2017-18-accounts-manchester-united-city

Based on wages if players and CEO types took a 30% pay cut it would negate the lost revenue.

Yesterdays newspaper headline( Mail of course)

‘ Queen : We are all in this together’.

Apparently that is what she will be saying in her address to the nation.

However well meaning she may be   she is simply being wheeled out for the usual ‘good old blighty’  rallying call.
It will be the usual toe curlingly cringy condescending  crap about british resolve.

We might all be in this together as in the virus is everywhere, but we are not all in it together as in having the same means to deal with the stress and worry of it all. The last thing people need is another rich person piping up from the comfort of their palace.

There's a couple of things here, why are you specifically targeting footballers? There are plenty of well of individuals and companies who should be incurring the wrath of the public before we even get to footballers. Like Tube Drivers, they are that rare breed of mainly working class individual that are paid well and have excellent union representation and people just cannot seem to accept that. Your beef should be with the owners of the club's, not the footballers.

As for Liverpool, it is a myth that they are this socialist and community club. Their support is riddled with Northern Irish loyalists, they defended racism until blue in the face and ask the people that they forced from their homes in Anfield whether they're a community club. They are just another shell that farts money and has been slowly removed from the community that started it.

I'm assuming she'll be "asked" to resign once this is all over, truly unbelievable arrogance

How can anyone watch that advert again that she is in ever again?

Noted that Carlaw stuck his head above the parapet on the matter. Noted he wasn't as quick to condemn Prince Charles
