Trying to do a bit of research now, but I fear I may be going down a rabbit hole. I just always assumed it was a sectarian insult, so was surprised to see it used so brazenly on here. Remember you’re on a Scotland supporters’ forum, not a Celtic one. Surely it’s best to leave club rivalries aside, and err on the side of caution in terms of potentially offensive remarks.

From what I can make out, the SFA have said that it’s an offensive term, and at least one person has been convicted in court of religiously-aggravated breach of the peace, for using the word. (From what I know of Old Firm fans, you will maybe respond by telling me that the SFA are run by Rangers supporters, or something like that?) If the SFA have said it’s an offensive term, then I don’t think we should be using it - anywhere - let alone on a Scotland supporters’ forum.

Dont use it if you dont want to, that's your choice.

I'll post whatever the fuck I want though,  I've told you this before when you sent me a message about the women's football team. You sound like you need to go and get your hole rather than sit up late on a Saturday worrying about what the SFA seems offensive.

Aye that was implied in the follow up posts under the tweet.

I was sort of hoping he was as that would make the Rossy incident even funnier.

I'm just disagreeing with the sentiment that folk worried are fuds. Not that there is folk spreading panic.

Few folk on here will remember last year that I took the wrong ticket stub to Pittodrie for the league clincher and had to climb over the fence between the TV gantry and south stand to get in (ended up breaking my foot but never found out until 2 days later) and it was CB who let me squeeze up with to watch the game as I had no idea where my allocated seat was. Never knew who he was at first but my mate is a big MMA fan and filled me in. Turns out he sits near me at CP too. Really nice guy and a passionate Scotsman so try and catch his fights when they're on the TV now.

Nice one Toepoke. Hadn’t heard of that series.

it is typical of much of humanity to consider ourselves the World though we’re not . The world would better off without our carrying on as at present . It’s a continuation of the in the image of god and centre of the universe bollocks that we still live by.

regards the virus I am glad the young seem more capable of resistance and believe I’ve had a good run to be in my fifties. Wish my folks had lived healthier longer but know my mum would have wanted euthanasia rather than lived like my dad did his final years.
I noticed last month that Germany legalised the commercialisation of euthanasia without too much fuss being kicked up .

What's the risk for people like me?

Even though the death rates among confirmed cases don't tell us about the precise risk in any single group, their patterns can tell us about who is most at risk.

Some types of people are more likely to die if they contract coronavirus: the elderly, the unwell and, maybe, men.

In the first big analysis of more than 44,000 cases from China, the death rate was ten times higher in the very elderly compared to the middle-aged.

I would still be interested where that % came from.

I’m talking about myself. The stats were given out recently on Sky News but I’ve given it as an estimate.

I’m 55 & people in that group were slightly above the general death rate.

However, most significantly, I think they gave a rate of (I think it was) 6.8% for people with respiratory problems. That includes low end (probably asthma) to far more serious. My own illness sits at the ‘severe’ end of lung problems (it’s forced me to have to quit work as an example). Some of the problem is that cells in sections of my lungs are dead, & in other parts airways are distorted. Similar to something like bronchiectasis, this means that anything nasty in there can quickly colonise areas of my lungs. Beyond that...long story!

So, using the base figure of 6.8% that has been publicised, factoring in my age & the fact that the researchers on various forums are saying this would be very bad news if sufferers got it, I came up with my own estimate of survival chances being maybe 80-85%. Aside from the lungs, I’m actually in generally good health so that may mitigate.

Anyway, the upshot is I’m thinking I can increase those odds by going into hiding at some point!

Edit: apologies I typed this up before I noticed others had put the graphics if the stats up!

There is so much stuff being written about it that it is hard to keep up. It's helpful to have an assistant to sort out the useful information from the dross.

Cheers.:ok:

This is kinda how I felt at the start of the outbreak. I am now starting to think it's going to be more serious than I had thought at that time. I'm not sure if it is because of the media coverage warping my brain or because it's getting closer to home. Or, maybe it's just that the numbers are stacking up?

Panic buying of toilet rolls is a mighty weird response though. WTF?

I'm away to stock up on baked beans and pasta. I'm not sure how many months worth to get though?

If you bulk up on the beans then maybe add some additional loo roll too.

I think it’s very concerning. As I said earlier in thread, I don’t remember worldwide Govts responding in this manner to previous viruses. I also don’t remember them seeming to be as infectious as this one. Or mortality rate to infection being as high.

Without wanting to go all conspiracy theory it’s almost as if we aren’t been told the full story. Which is possibly a good thing given how some people have reacted to the level of information they currently have.

Morrisons in Johnstone are rationing toilet roll and , bizarrely, kitchen roll.
You are more likely to bleed to death from ripping your skin to pieces from a roll of Plenty  ( of which there is not ) than the Coronavirus.

Kitchen roll is underrated. As someone who blows their nose a lot in the morning I find it causes way less irritation than bog roll. Probably because one is designed for wiping your sphincter while the other is designed for use in the kitchen. Always buy quality in both though. 5 ply on the shit paper. How the fuck do people use that cheap stuff? 3 ply on the kitchen roll.

Saw my first two folks in masks today on public transport. It begins...

😁, I bow to your knowledge of kitchen roll on the nasal passages.
It is true , kitchen roll doesn't break up the way loo roll does so it probably does cause less irritation, but it definitely is rougher than loo paper. Unless folk are still using Izal or the Daily Record.

I agree on the quality,  its false economy buying the cheaper stuff.
I buy anything that has the word  ‘quilted’ in it when they are on offer, and Regina kitchen roll, but can only buy the posh stuff now my children are grown up and not flushing away a roll of paper a day 😊

I believe  that we are actually under reacting , chances are it's already very widely spread in the UK population - we won't know as the testing so far has been  inadequate and probably not very accurate.

Italy did a more thorough job of testing and has, not unsurprisingly found a much higher rate of infection - sadly it's now well out of control there - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-51793619

The truth is modern medicine isn't nearly as good as they would like you to believe and their is actually very little that can be done, it's more about managing public expectations.

As my Grandfather would have  said "if it's for you, it won't go by you" - all you can do is observe reasonable hygene and hope for the best.

Sunday Post is by far the best when you get desperate. And you will get desperate. Only a question of time.

If there is "very little" that can be done about it, how can we be under reacting? If there is very little that can be done, then we should just do "very little"

It is, your quote is people being worried being fuds (i even quote it). Now you're going on about "panic spread by the usual suspects" which is a different thing altogether.

Chris is the Scottish Fighter i mentioned earlier in the thread (see below).

I do have a lot to learn, however I am able to follow the conversation.

It's not a different thing, the two are directly correlated, you're being utterly pedantic now. You can disagree with my opinion and even trash it but it still doesn't make you factually correct and me factually wrong.

Now fuck off and get to work on an isolation tent and care package for your 90 year old!

Look after yourself pal.   My dad's lungs were fekked (low capacity with a lot of scarring, plus asthma).   He was an athlete when young, but since I was a kid he was coughing his guts up.   Then for him came mankind's greatest invention I think;  the Ventolin inhaler.

He passed peacefully in his sleep in the end.   I'm not giving you his age.   You don't need any target from me!   We all have an hour glass somewhere, and he did reach decades older than his dad did.
