Hotels and student accommodation are the what Glasgow specialises in at the moment. I agree, it's not the greatest pub and that block isn't the nicest  in the world, but these places deserved to be preserved and should be earmarked for investment rather than prioritising the needs of these big property developers and shit architects.

I can't remember when I was last in if I'm honest.  Used to be decent 10 year or so back but it went downhill rapid.

Depends what you're looking for out a boozer I suppose. Anywhere that does a decent pint and lets you congregate with other Scotland fans while playing the tunes on matchday is all I require. Never seen any fights in it either which is a bonus.

Think last time I was in it before a Scotland game was 8am the day of the Italy game in 2007.

We were there fore few hours then Strathies I think.

I think that day was probably the drunkest I'd seen Glasgow as a city.

From what I recall most of the pubs in the city centre were full before lunchtime, with a five o'clock kick-off and most people not going to the game but watching it in the pub, carnage was guaranteed.

Post-match we went to McNeills at Queens Park for a couple of pints as we normally do.  Got the train back into Central about 8-30 or so.  Walked up Hope Street and a full on, wild west style, bar fight came barrelling out of a pub just as we passed, including somewhat surreally an active participant on crutches.    We weren't planning on going in but if we had, that would've changed our minds pronto.   Went for a curry instead then went to Sports Cafe to be greeted by a police officer guarding the ladies toilets and forensics officers in white disposable suits as someone had been raped in there - or hadn't been raped as it eventually transpired.

And the trouble was all whitewashed by the Scottish media - not a mention of it in the Sunday papers or TV news. The later kick off time was a massive factor in this.

The Italy game?   Well, aye, afterwards we kept walking past the city centre to an Italian cafe up past Sauchiehall Street.   Got a bit of a couple of strange looks, the piano player stopped, but sat down and had a good supper.   We were starvin' after all, as Hampden had run out of pies by half time.

I didn't see any trouble but I'm positive that it will have been teuchters responsible.

These neanderthals from places like Perth, Aberdeen and Falkirk start drinking as soon as they open their eyes around 7am and by the time it comes to kick off then they just want to start scrapping

Was great to see virtually everyone in the city wearing Scotland colours.

It's the last time I can remember the national team really capturing the general public's imagination.  I can remember people in work the day before sat around with Scotland shirts on!  Changed days now though.  :(

That's right, one of the red tops had a "wear your Scotland jersey to work" campaign. Great times

It was.  :) It's how I reckon it'd be if we managed to qualify for something again, especially a World Cup.

At the moment though the vast majority of Scots wouldn't open their curtains if Scotland were playing in their back garden!

The week leading up to that game was tremendous. Worked in a call centre at the time and there was a group of us going to the game. Went to a gig at Oran Mor the Friday night after work and there was a few of us with the Scotland tops on. In the crystal palace 8am for the game, definitely the drunkest I’ve seen Hampson that I can remember, ended up in the Garage afterwards after a drink in a few pubs on the way but can’t remember seeing much bother luckily.

Real shame about the Iron Horse, last time would have been watching the Iceland away game in 2009.

I watched that game in Miami as we had just got off a cruise, it’s the last time I saw harp lager, went to the toilet and when I came out it was 0-1,  I had a cd with the Scotland tunes on and the staff played it, ended up giving it to a girl who played for his , think her name was Rhonda Jones  {honest},also gave my 67 shirt to a guy who said he lived in Cayman Islands ,  shite finish to a great holiday, ended up arguing with airport staff as I wasn’t sitting with my wife on plane,  when I got to my seat the guy next to my wife stopped seats with me, very nice as it was beside an exit, I am sure he wished he didn’t as I was asleep before taking off. To top it off my dad had died when I was on cruise.

My brother was coming over for the Italy game, he moved from Scotland 30 yrs ago but followed the team on all their away games and came back for any important home games.
A month before the game we found out we had a sister we knew nothing about, I met her for the first time a couple of weeks before the game and for some reason I thought it would be a good idea for my brother to meet her on the day of the game.
He was absolutely blootered. I mean really really blootered. As though it wasnt nerve racking enough meeting a sibling you hadnt known you had for 40+ years ,Scotland were playing their biggest game for years. Wtf was I thinking.
We were in the Crystal Palace and he could hardly speak he was so drunk .It didnt help that our sister was more into rugby and didnt know much about football.
We were sitting at a high table and he kept falling asleep. I had to sit next to him to make sure he didnt fall off his stool. His pals kept buying him pints despite how drunk he was. I knew he would never get into the game like that so I literally poured pints of water down his throat.

An hour later he was almost sober ! It was like Lazarus coming back from the dead. I have never seen anyone sober up that quickly.

Was absolutely shit after the game. Worst I have felt I think.
