Just looking at the list of signatories to the wada code on the wada website. UEFA isn’t on it but FIFA is.

Just heard on the news that they are banned from the world cup in 2022, but no mention of the Euros.

UEFA should just grow a pair and ban them. The idea that the Euros are not a major sporting event is just bollocks.

Assuming this isn't turned over on appeal to CAS, all that is likely to happen is that there would still be Russian athletes and teams at the various tournament, the wouldn't be representing Russia, so there would be no anthems and no flags, so its a pretty symbolic gesture - albeit a powerful one.

So by this definition, the Champions League is also not a major tournament. Who is the authority that has made the decision to ban? WADA or FIFA? UEFA should make the decision on their own saying it brings their tournament into disrepute allowing Russia to take part.

Spain voted to destroy the blood bags rather than reveal who they all belonged to back during the Feuntes case. So hard to make any moral case. This is merely just cold/getting hotter war politics enteringthe sporting arena.

Nike ran a huge doping operation as well, it just highlights the difference in political structure, Russians nationalise their doping programme, the West let the markets and corporations do it.

I would expect UEFA to make a statement, here's hoping SFA and other national federations are making calls right now, they should be fighting for us - even if it's fruitless they should be giving is every opportunity. The FA from Greece should also be causing a stink because they would enter the play offs.

When you have a near complicit media it is easy to see how the facts get reversed and bare faced lies become  the truth. Everything Russia is bad these days. I stopped believing it all a long time ago.

UEFA has made a statement apparently they they won't be making any changes. 

 

So WADA has made the recommendation, but not the bans themselves. UEFA could ban them but apparently already issued a statement they are not at this time. The British anti doping authority is livid.

Surely FIFA have ultimate authority for all football tournaments though?

I guess in the sense that they could in theory revoke the membership of any confederation that didnae play with their baw, but how likely is that to happen....particularly when the confederation in question is UEFA.

I'm assuming as Russia are a host nation they would have found it difficult to ban them & still host games there.

I've spent/wasted hundreds of hours looking at doping, it's a real Wizard of Oz situation. The actual athletes could be construed as the victims here, as it's never owners or senior management that get in trouble even though they run the programmes and omerta runs through everyone.
