If the ball is in front of him then yes. But it wasn't it was behind him so that combined with an agressive attacker meant he was under huge pressure just to get something on it.

I think you are being really harsh on him.

Go back and watch it again.  An inswinging cross towards the back post and he's running in with the forward towards the goal.  Ideally he should be a glancing header out to the flank for a throw or the easier and percentage option, knocking it behind for a corner.  Then you set up again and defend the corner

You don't do what he did and head it back out to the edge of the box.   His positioning is all wrong as he's gotten ahead of the ball and  can't put it where it need to go.

That's pretty basic stuff.

Fair enough but I'm not a Scotland Internationalist.  Not too much to expect professional footballers to do the simple things properly.

For what it’s worth; the reasons he is running towards his own goal are 1) because you run faster forwards than you do backwards. If he ran backwards to ensure he headed it facing away from his goal as you suggested he would not have won the header and we’d have lost a goal from the header2) because we held a high line at the edge of our box as is common place nowadays. As the ball went into the area between penalty spot and 6 yard line he had to sprint into position to make up ground to head the ball at all, as I said before.

the only way he could have headed the ball forwards would have been if we started with a far deeper defensive line which we didn’t.

He should be heading the ball either the way he's facing or to the side, not behind - simple as that.
