OK I told why IMO not to pick him and who to pick ahead of him and why.

Now with out just throwing a blanket over the ones I picked and saying the are all shite, explain why Griffiths is first choice

I never said those players were shite ...... I said your ideas were shite :ok:

Leigh Griffiths is the greatest Scottish forward of all time. Hughie Gallacher's ghost told me so.

Some one going to explain the Leigh Griffiths love in.

He doesn't start for Celtic.

When he does he cant score in 2 hours against second division opposition.

In five seasons at Parkhead he has scored 3 goals in European group stage competition.

Took him how long to score his first goal for Scotland?

Iv'e asked before but what exactly does he contribute as a player other than score bucket loads against weak opposition.

He reminds me of Kris Boyd and Jordan Rhodes, good stats but not very good footballers.

Back on topic if McGinn carries on the way he has started the season he should start.

I too had my doubts but he had a really nice run of form in the second half of the 2018 qualifiers. Not just the England game but think it was Slovenia where he hit the post twice and seemed to be jinxed in every scoring at international level. His movement around that time also meant midfielders could push forward and exploit the space left which would work well with likes of McGinn and maybe Armstrong playing.

That was a while ago. He's had his issues which hopefully are under control but ultimately he hasn't played much in last 6-8 months so is still getting back into the swing of things with match fitness and sharpness and all that.

Certainly should be in the squad but not a starter at this point. Guess Fletcher is safe option, scoring regularly and vastly experienced, clean slate for him. Think McBurnie is at stage Griffiths was in 2016, doing his job no problem at club level but isn't quite clicking yet for the national team.

Thanks for the reply

I'm probably guilty of what I accuse others of, seeing what I want to see. I probably decided when he wasn't scoring he wasn't good enough and nothing was going to change my mind. Your right he was playing his best football for club and country in the run up to his break but as soon as there was a way for me to disclaim his ability I took it. At the moment though he can't be called our best striker simply because he was a year ago and until he gets game time for Celtic. I can't pick him when his own club won't

I agree with most of what tartan Chris has said. I was never much of a fan of Griffith's and used to think he could only score against spl dross. He took a while to get going with Scotland but his form in the second half of the world cup qualifiers was excellent and was our best player imo. After those games I became a big fan of his and I believe hes underrated by Celtic fans who seem to prefer guys who just want to use Celtic as a stepping stone.

His goal record at Celtic is impressive as well with a goal every two games with a quite alot of those appearances having been sub apearances, pretty sure his goal record for starts would be 2 in 3.

His ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play is excellent and he plays the lone striker role very well. I genuinely think he's should be a nailed on starter when fit and playing for Celtic and he also earned the starting spot with his good performances for Scotland. He also takes a good free kick which we don't have alot of free kick specialists. He's imo probably our only striker who could cut it in the epl. Maybe mcburnie could but that's still to be seen.

His free kicks v England were not bad as well.

This feels like an obvious criterium for me, but maybe I'm wrong: I don't think you should get a start for your country if you can't get a start for your club. I like Armstrong, but a lot of people on here talk about him starting in the upcoming matches and I just can't see how to justify that. He needs to actually play serious competitive football before he merits a start for Scotland.

Only exception to this for me at the moment is McBurnie, because I think he's being phased into the team still. I imagine he'll be starting for Sheffield Utd very soon. It doesn't seem like this is Armstrong's trajectory.

I would accept any bench regular from Man City or Liverpool but that's an argument for another day.
