Scottish players in action 19/20

Declan Rice was born in England, and played for RoI as one of his grandparents were born there, so its completely unrelated to Gilmour, who is 100% Scottish.

England could of course call him up, just as we could call any English player up, but it would create the unholiest of football wars.

Cheers.

Interesting that there are no quotes or sources for the information (other than The Athletic).

Why on earth would Steve Clarke go to a match to specifically watch Gilmour but not select him after watching him play fantastically? What would he need to do to get a call up? Score 10 goals?

I smell shite.

BBC say he will be with the under 21s.

Charlie Adam also seems unaware that he should definitely start.

It says he will be named in the U21 squad whilst Clarke decides if he’ll call him up to the senior squad or not. It doesn’t state he will be with the under 21s.

Charlie Adam is one of the worst players I’ve ever seen in a Scotland shirt and his opinion on Gilmour counts for the sum total of fuck all.

It will be very very very soul destroying if Gilmour is named in that under 21 squad tomorrow.

It will be bloody baffling.

Picture it - we are 1-1 against Israel with 15 minutes to go and on the bench we have Graham Shinnie or McLean to bring on when it could have been Billy Gilmour.

Being named in the U21 squad doesn’t mean he won’t be in the full squad. It literally said that in the article you posted a link to. It would just mean Clarke hasn’t decided yet.

I think it’s quite obvious if he’s named in the under 21’s Clarke will come out with the Important games in that age group he can’t miss usual generic crap and that will be that.

If Clarke genuinely hasn’t decided yet (maybe he wants to watch him again at the weekend?) then it makes sense to name him in that U21 squad. What are they meant to do? Call him up as a late replacement to the U21 squad if Clarke doesn’t pick him?

Yes. The full squad obviously should come first and literally everyone thinks he should be in the full squad.

There’s a first time for everything.

It’s a pity Malky MacKay is talking pish at the end of the article.

Mackay who tried to stop him going to Chelsea in the first place.

Mackay probably advised King to stay at Rangers also.

The U21 squad is being announced first. Clarke hasn’t finalised his squad yet. Why should Gemmill not pick Gilmour if Clarke hasn’t finalised his squad yet?

If Clarke doesn’t promote Gilmour to his squad next week then we can complain about it.

Not a Malky Mackay fan but I didn't see anything unreasonable in his comments. Gilmour has been superb in the last two games but we are indeed very strong in midfield. It's potentially two huge games to put him into when he's yet to make his international debut. Not as obvious a choice as some are implying.
