I live in Asia. And you have some cheek commenting about posting abuse. You've had more aliases on here than Peter Tobin.

Looking at the clubs in the top tier of Irish football...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/League_of_Ireland_Premier_Division#2019_clubs

Most grounds are 3000-5000 with just a couple at 7000 & 8000.

So why would they want hordes of ostensibly Irish hating huns descending on their neighbourhoods in relatively large numbers on a regular basis?

Who needs that shit in Scotland never mind these folk in Ireland.

Not a fucking chance... just no way. Scottish football is not desirable at all to be involved with at present. They would just be adding themselves into the most boring two horse race league in the world.

And that is before you get to the managerial / leadership poison that is any marriage with the SFA... who would want those criminally incompetent cunts anywhere near their game.

Marriage, no cunt in their right mind would touch the ugly on the shelf bloater cunt that is Scottish football.

The Irish clubs would make more money and be able to attract a better level of player. Potential games against rangers and Celtic not to mention Aberdeen and hearts and hibs would greatly interest Irish clubs imo. As long as policing is done right the crowd trouble could be kept to a minimum although I would expect there to some trouble regarding rangers fans travelling over there. The potential for growth of the Irish teams is where I feel the idea would take off and become a success. Cities like Dublin and cork could produce bigger teams than what we currently have in the bottom half of our top flight which would boost the sponsorship and TV deal allowing for a better league in the long run.

What's everyone's thoughts on this proposal, the spl invite the Irish teams to join our lowest tier and work their way up. Obviously shamrock rovers etc wouldn't be massive boosts to our league system initially but there could be potential for them to grow into clubs the size of hibs or hearts and then the TV and sponsorship deals would be much larger and our clubs may be better able to compete with other leagues for better players thus raising the standard of football.

Fuck that... Plastic paddies are one thing, but the real stuff? No thanks

Absolutely terrible suggestion. You'd dilute the TV money further with increased costs to the lower league clubs having to travel to Ireland every couple of weeks.

Not for me.

That and the simple fact you'd then get Uefa or similar looking to form a single national team instead of separate ones.

Nope, not for me.

Well that's it isn't it?   UEFA see this multi-national league as competition :o

That’s a decent reason to go ahead.  Anything that upsets UEFA is good in my book. Notwithstanding that, it would be a shockingly bad idea.

I'm not hearing any coherent argument against the idea other than c'mon tae f'ck s'hte.   And bigotfest...

Devil's advocate like...

Apart from the points I made that you ignored in your last post, you mean?

Have UEFA not already approved a Benelux league? Can't see UEFA wanting them to amalgamate into one national team.

Sorry I was too intent on making my own point in that reply.

Didn't know about the Benelux league.

Don't know anything about the Benelux league but it's not started yet, so is a bit of a moot point.

The TV money would be more plus the potential increase in size of the Irish clubs could make the league even more lucrative to potential sponsors and TV companies. The idea is not one that initially would be profitable but in time the increased size of the Irish clubs could mean a richer league. For example Dublin with its large population base could support a team the size of hearts or hibs.

You keep assuming the Irish clubs would get bigger. I think football is possibly the 3rd biggest sport in Ireland after Rugby Union and Gaelic Football.

Why would that change?

From what I understand most Dubliners would prefer Celtic or Man Utd anyway.

Edit - forgot to say the TV money wouldn't be more as nobody is interested in Rangers v any Irish team. There just wouldn't be the audience required to bump up the revenue. Costs would increase and you're diluting the prize money further.

It's just economically a bad idea.

We can’t even get folk to support their local team in Scotland, but we’re expecting to invite clubs in from other countries and help them grow their fan base due to local pride, by making them travel to a different country to play?

You could add hurling and probably golf to that list. Folk in Ireland aren't going to desert their traditional sports just because Rangers and Celtic come to visit them a couple of times a year.
