Beat them. We go favourites to qualify.

Genuinely believe that and I believe we will beat them as well.

Gigantic match

We need something away as well, but with a full strength side for both games it’s certainly possible.

And a win in Cyprus, beat the kazaks at home, hope Russia don't get a result against Belgium at home.

We should beat San Marino though

No. No it doesn't.

The Russians are still massive favourites to finish 2nd.

They're scored 15, we've scored 4.
They've conceded 3, we've conceded 7.
They can trade wins with us and lose no sleep.

While we both beat Cyprus by 1 goal at home..
we had an even split of possession, they had 65-35
Cyprus had more shots on target than us, but only managed 1 to Russia's 5 .

There's no way to paint it that makes us favourites with a home win against Russia.

They've looked super consistent, so you have to assume they'll take maximum points from the other sides below them, but lose to Belgium.
That would leave them on 18, with the two games against us yet to be figured in.

We've struggled against Cyprus and lost to the Khazaks, but even if we take 9 points from them and San Marino, we're on 15.

Simply put, a win and a draw against Russia is not enough.
We need to win home and away.

McTominay suspended for the Russia home game. That's a blow.

Thought he'd only had 2 bookings? It's 3 for a suspension, isn't it?

Exactly, lets compare the stats from recent games. Not saying they are world beaters but they made the Quarters of the World Cup, Russian clubs normally compete well in european club competitions too.

Really looking forward to the Russian game at Hampden. Friday night too. Tough game and will surely be a sell out. A win would be a massive psychological shot in the arm for the squad and the support, regardless of how we fare in the rest of the group. Aside from the England game, it feels like it's been a long time since we had a booming atmosphere at home. This has the makings of a fantastic atmosphere and game. Still think we're underdogs for it but important that we see a strong squad and pre-match build up for it, and hopefully a decent performance and result underlines that we're genuinely turning a corner.

It is one we need to win to have any chance of qualifying. 5+ points from Russia x 2 and Belgium makes us favourites.

No according to the article I read, but I hope they were wrong!

And, if we take 4 points to their 1 from the two Scotland v Russia games we both end up on 19 points and we have the better head to head.

Mind you, if by some miracle we do actually manage to take 4 points off Russia, I'm sure we would still manage to fuk it up by dropping points away to Cyprus. Or, Russia would score a last minute equaliser against Belgium. It's the Scotland way.

I, for one, will be getting very excited if we do manage to take 4 points off Russia but I've seen nothing in our recent history to suggest that that is even remotely possible.

So yeah, the article was wrong, no worries.

I sincerely hope this is a wind up and you're not all that daft haha

Paterson

However I will pat McKenna if he gets us to the euros - any time he likes.

Patterson hasn’t played a game a right back for Cardiff since the early part of the 17/18 season. Most have been played in midfield of up front.

There's hope at least. If Cyprus can keep Russia to 1 goal with the home team having so much pressure then there's hope for us. A draw in Russia (as in q dor Euro 96) would be good but tough.

The away game in Cyprus worries me.
