dan cake Posted August 5 Posted August 5 Another thread turns into a car crash, so many posters with hard ons for each other. Play nice ladies Quote
Big Ramy 1314 Posted August 6 Posted August 6 I think the board is fine, apart from the odd argy bargy.. I myself try not to get involved, if my opinion is of some disturbance, then so be it. I have always taken the high road, as this is a message board, no need to take it to heart.. I have only had 1,568,335 suspensions since I joined in 2006, so Fair play to me for putting up with you lot.... I don't post as often anymore as I'm getting older, and retirement surprisingly keeps me busy... Instill enjoy the banter, and enjoy the craic... BR 1314 🏴🏴🏴🍺🍺🍺 Quote

Informative, funny and personable, something that was missing on other forms of social media. No more. We have a couple of folk so far down the rabbit hole I doubt they will ever find their way back, and good posters who should know better giving them oxygen . Its hardly surprising hardly anyone posts in this section these days. Its still a good board for discussing the national team, but this section is dying a slow painful death. I doubt I will be around to witness it. Its depressing and demoralising. Don’t know if others feel the same, probably not by the lack of interest shown towards some pretty questionable posts over the last 48 hours. Crack on. The AOB thread in particular used to be a place where those of good humour would come into their own. That’s sadly lacking these days. I think in some small part you’re just seeing the polarisation of society being played out on here. It’s all deliberate this and we’re all being played like fiddles. What doesn’t help is the lack of serious moderation of any kind on here. I mean, I’m sure we’re all grateful that people stepped up when it looked like the board was fucked but ffs at least make a bit of effort. People have been asking for months now to have the away games section updated but no cunts interested! Edited August 11 by slasher Quote
Big Ramy 1314 Posted August 12 Posted August 12 I also feel that not enough folk post, it tends to be the same folk posting and commenting. Maybe folk are shy or just don't want to get involved, I dunno.... We have 80 odd thousand members I think? I'm a shy person masell, but I get involved in the odd debate noo and again... Quote
StirlingEgg Posted Friday at 11:43 AM Posted Friday at 11:43 AM Not been on much lately but the news thread is pretty awful on an ongoing basis and brings the whole place down. The crimes which tend to generate discussion always go the same way with the same folk accusing others who are not reacting like them of being 'woke' or even the reason why these crimes are happening. A ridiculous conclusion to arrive at. The same 4 or 5 guys running the show and accusing others of the very behaviour they are guilty of. It's pathetic. Disappointing too that hardly anyone calls them out on it. Hiding behind 'free speech' and 'just a difference of opinion' is a wafer thin justification. What does it really add to a discussion or who benefits from saying a murdered woman should just have got a cat or dismissing people drowning because the water wasn't deep? Do these guys feel better about themselves for 5 mins after having a go at folk or repeatedly trolling? It's all very well crying 'free speech' but that doesn't mean not being decent or respectful or as a bare minimum being reasonably informed on whatever the topic is. Some never back down, apologise or correct themselves; the Morocco story is a recent example of that. My other half isn't on here so I was telling him about some of the most recent shitty posts. He's on one of the club boards and said there's none of this kind of stuff as it's pretty well moderated and that it sounds like this one isn't at all so Slasher is right about that. Some are definitely getting bolder about what they say because of it but what does that achieve? Nothing. Quote

Nothing. 👆This Too many folk are desperate to find a woke, Muslim, immigrant or far right angle on anything and everything these days. One of our world cup match threads had someone repeatedly saying the Muslim ref was out to screw us over. If someone gets attacked on the street people can't just let the police do their job and wait for facts to emerge. People are desperate to to know what their skin colour, nationality and politics are. Shit stirring politicians are culpable for tweeting rumours and conspiracy theories as part of their dog whistle politics. Divisive politicians and big tech elites like Musk and Murdoch are managing to divide societies with the push of an algorithm these days all to preserve and increase their own power and wealth at the expense of normal folk who are left poorer and fighting with each other over the crumbs. Some are definitely getting bolder about what they say because of it but what does that achieve? Nothing. A week or two ago I made a facetious post saying female aid workers, generally, might be safer getting a cat or a dog if they have an urge to look after someone or something, rather than putting their lives in jeopardy by visiting dangerous parts of the world. It wasn't the best post I have ever made on here or anywhere else; it was immature and in retrospect I probably wouldn't post something like that again. However, I did not say the woman who was murdered in Greece recently should have just got a cat. I hope that was a genuine misinterpretation of my (admittedly silly) post, or a case of the memory playing tricks rather than a deliberate attempt to misrepresent me. As for the standard of posting on here in general, I have in the past seem some genuinely nasty, needling, snidey, personal stuff posted: posters mocked for (IMO bravely) speaking up about mental health or addiction issues, or having those issues used as a stick to beat them during arguments; I've seen posters suggest other posters commit suicide; I've seen posters ganged-up on in a way teenage bullies might indulge in. Personally, over the years I have been on here, I have taken more than I have ever dished out. That, to my mind, is far worse than posting opinions (genuinely held or not) and thankfully that's largely a thing of the past. There are a couple of posters whose posting style irritates me - but that's where the ignore function comes into its own. And if the opinions posted are shite, post better ones. Drown the shite ones out. You might find someone who agrees with you, or you might even change someone's mind. Unlikely, but you never know! Quote
Och Aye Posted Friday at 01:41 PM Posted Friday at 01:41 PM Sorry posted this in the news thread but should have posted it here. Maybe I'm being paranoid but is anyone else thinking the new mods on here are contributing as tamb members by posting as many controversial/argumentative views as possible just to keep interest in the board going? Maybe it is necessary after the close demise of the board a few years back. Quote

I wasn't trying to frame you or anything but those posts did leave me a bit cold and referring back, the comments between you and DTS were about the demise of Elisabeth Ross. I only started posting here relatively recently but used to have a read as a guest. I do remember the shady types of posts you mention but the difference was, it was moderated and there were consequences. Or some folk regretted being pished and censored themselves! I do occasionally try and debate but sometimes words are twisted or the goalposts move and it just makes you weary (probably the intention). I'm mainly here for the wit and wisdom! 😃 Similar to Wings Over Scotland, you wonder what new folk or occasional visitors must think of some of the posts/comments. Just because you can say something doesn't mean you should. Quote
phart Posted Friday at 08:52 PM Posted Friday at 08:52 PM I've been arguing on here since 2003. Very rarely do i think of something after leaving the board, i think the only time I ever took something off the board was Kraeigh (sp?) as it got so big folk outside the board were discussing it, and then meeting up with folk from the board at games randomly was always fun. When i was younger i was a contrarian to say the least so very often got pelters etc. As a previous gamer though was all very tame in comparison though. I dished out a lot as well though so hardly a victim. Quote

Just because you can say something doesn't mean you should. Sorry, no, that isn't accurate. The wee exchange between DtS and I might have followed on from a conversation about Elizabeth Ross's tragic death but by that point we were speaking generally. I agree, though, that it isn't difficult to be polite - usually! Sometimes things can seem worse written down, or typed out, than they might if they were spoken out loud. As a general rule I don't tend to post things on here that I wouldn't say in a conversation with friends in the pub, although, as with most rules, it occasionally gets broken! Quote

This may be related to nature of this kind of message board. Some things - like matchday venue facts - are simple transactions but some complex issues are difficult to pin down or resolve. I think it lies behind several of the disagreements, and misconceptions about disagreements. Quote

I don’t particularly care either I responded with my views not for the first time on here about the dangers that WLWW pose. I was replying in general. Not about any WLWW in particular and not exclusively to the women that got done in. I can’t speak for Scotlad but it certainly looks like replies in one paragraph in general terms before starting another paragraph to shift the topic back to the woman who got done in Its really not difficult to understand unless you’re looking to create conflict Edited Sunday at 09:43 AM by DoonTheSlope Quote

I didn't think the posts reflect well on the board (so relevant to this thread) or needed to be said given the context. You said I was twisting words but there it all is in black in white. Scotlad himself has even acknowledged some regret. Quote

Scotlad himself has even acknowledged some regret. They don’t reflect well on the board? It’s a discussion and during discussion the topic often tends to veer away from the initial topic. That’s what happened in this case as he replied to my general terms post in his general terms with one paragraph before reverting back to the original topic in another yet you can’t differentiate between the two. It’s all there in black and white The fact you think the posts didn’t need to be said says a hell of a lot more about you than it says about anything else You said that Scotlad saying some women should get themselves a dug left you cold. Hertsscot Posted Monday at 06:35 AM Posted Monday at 06:35 AM Just a general point about the news thread. The comments stemmed from Elisabeth's murder, general observations after that don't make the posts any less unpleasant or insensitive. I'll leave it there too and should probably have found better things to do than get involved but there you go, freedom of speech does have consequences. Quote
