At the U17 age level it's probably more important that we're attempting to play football on the deck and allowing the players the opportunity to make mistakes than the actual results.

I always thought that we were better at this age level historically as we tended to select players that were bigger and stronger and as they moved up the age groups the other countries caught up with that, but were more technically proficient.

If the group as a whole is still really young 1(5-16 year olds), then we may see a difference in the performance in the next qualifying group.

they are currently losing 1-0 to poland...

a great time to be alive.

It was been a pretty dreadful week for our international sides -

  • First team suffer worst ever result and look poor against San Marino.
  • Under 21s lose to Sweden and draw with Mexico, missing a last minute penalty.
  • Under 19s win two and self destruct in the final match against Portugal.
  • Under 17s lose all three matches - with home advantage.

Have things ever been this bad?

Think we need to cut the 19s some slack....today was always going to be tough, it’s been a good qualifying campaign, just so disappointing the way it’s ended. And with the 17s and 19s, they still need to get through a qualifying group to get to the elite groups, so they are most definitely not amongst the worst!

Wouldn’t exactly call it a full strength u21s squad either.

The footballing gods have definitely got it in for the Tartan Army the now though!

As much as it's funny blaming a higher being, the fact is that the blame for this apocalyptic mess lays at the feet of the SFA and the Old Firm.

Hate to say it but they will be destroyed in the finals.

At least they're in a finals to be destroyed. We will be lucky to see the mens team get to finals in our life time ☹

I was disappointed by how this ended as really thought they would do well. Seemed to be self imploding in the final match ( pressure??) but decent results in first two matches. Good look to this team.

Best thing is that they learn from it even if they probably wont learn much from Billy Stark.

Followed the highlights of their first 2 games and they really were playing some nice sharp possession-based football. Gutted for them not to be making the finals. Difficult to get any kind of result going down to 9 men much less losing 4-0.

But as we say the lessons learned are more important than these competitive games at this level.

It’s a bit of a blow the u19s didn’t make the finals. Hopefully they will go to Toulon again, although I don’t know if that is confirmed.

they have too busy of a schedule to go to the next  Toulon tournament. Was mentioned on On the ball this morning.
