I still think of Pele as the greatest of all time but he is a bit of a twat about it sometimes.

ParisInAKilt
Probably scored more free kicks over the past 5 years than most teams. Still top scorer assists for 2018. Pele has praised him in the past so maybe he’s going senile in his advanced years.

sbcmfc
It’s a Brazil v Argentina thing. Pele does seem to believe his own hype a bit.

phart
Never listen to Pele. He has about 35,000 players in his top 50 of all time. Plus old folk talking about young folk.
exile
All of the above could be true. Still, not sure why people so touchy about Messi. Messi is arguably overrated. I imagine Pele thinks greatness is measured in world cups. Pele played and scored in three world cup winning sides, including scoring in two finals. Messi never won a world cup. I'm not defending Pele's pronouncements, I don't follow what he says, I was just referring to when his football did the talking. I'd say the comments against Pele above are more harsh or exaggerated than his original quote. I guess I wondered why.
Third Lanark
He still provided one of my all-time favourite quotes in 1970. Just after scoring his 1000th goal he said, " I could have scored it earlier, but the goalkeeper kept getting in the way." How inconsiderate. Or has a condition that allows you to use the good stuff. The Grand Tour Peletons are full of modern medicine too, only a few Froome's and Lances in it. thplinth
Was his "drug use" not all back when he was a child and a potential dwarf / midget? (fuck sake what is the correct term now?). So he was prescribed growth drugs to avoid him being too small. Apart from that ... has he been at the PED's?

He tested positive for dexamethasone too, and just like in this case, it was accepted that it was an oversight, with Molina saying he ingested it accidentally through a vitamin supplement. He got banned for two years though." Boxing has almost zero anti-doping measures and they still gave boxer 2 years for testing positive. I would say he is one of the most naturally gifted players ever to walk the earth, and doesn’t carry the baggage of a Maradona or George Best which has allowed him to do it consistently. It is a shame he has never done it (or had the team with him to do it) at a World Cup, but he has done it in the champions league and as much as we might all wish things didn’t move on, that is now the pinnacle.
