Russian visa

Do any regular visitors to Russia have any top tips regarding visa applications?

It appears you have to submit your finger prints as part of the visa application, prior to travelling.

Thanks,

Cat

I went in 2014 and got my visa through an agency which cut out a lot of the hassle so I'd recommend that for the minimal additional expense.

Didn't have to submit a fingerprint at that time so that must be new.

Said it’s either Saransk, Nizhny, Novgorod or Volgograd in the paper today. It was the record so it might be bullshit.

If that’s the case then does anyone know if the Russian visa is priced per day or does it cover a certain period of time say 3-5 days?

It’s Moscow I’m wanting to see first and foremost, the games secondary

It's a flat fee. One of the questions is the duration of your stay.

I received this email from the Russian National Office

The price structure doesn’t look like it’s copied and pasted over but the cost of a single entry visa is £185 and you will receive it in 20 days, £285 if you want it in 4 days

Dear, DoonTheSlope

Thank you for your email.

You can apply for Russian Visa 6 months before your travel.

To apply for a Russian Tourist Visa we need the following documents:

For British passport holders:

1. Original Passport (6 months upon exit, 2 clear pages in the passport)

2. 1 passport-type photograph . Important: taken not more than 6 months ago (check with the photo in the passport if it is older than 6 months)

3. Application form (completed online at visa.kdmid.ru).

4. Applicable fee.

5. Applicants who are self-employed, company directors who are working from home and unemployed people need to provide a copy of bank statements for the last three months which have a current balance of a minimum of 100GBP per day for the duration of the visit. Please note that if you wish to provide online banking printouts, you must make sure they are certified and stamped by your bank.

You don’t need to book in advance any flights or hotels.

It's expensive as they are providing a service.

Better to apply via the Russian Embassy in London, or the Consulate in Edinburgh. It's cheaper (only 120) and faster (5 days).

1.2. Visa exemption for cruise passengers worldwide

If you are not a citizen of any of the countries that have visa exemption (and you don’t have a diplomatic passport and you are not part of the ship or aircraft crew), then you need to apply for a visa to Russia before departure, though there are some minor exceptions to this rule and some additional conditions that must be met, which I will explain:

  • If you traveling in a cruise to St. Petersburg (or other Russian ports)
  • If you are traveling by ferry from Helsinki, Tallinn and Stockholm (with a stop in Helsinki) to St. Petersburg with St. Peter Line company or from Lappeenranta to Saint Petersburg or Vyborg with the company Saimaa Travel.
