Used to work in Empire House right next door so it was a fairly regular haunt for a quick pint at lunchtime or after work but never any more than one or two in those cases.  When a crowd of us started going to games together we'd always meet at the Iron Horse and get the bus from there and we had some cracking days/nights at that time.  Not been in it for years but would be a shame to see it go for those reasons.

city centre needs more development and regeneration and less old man boozers/dives.......

Agree to a certain extent but the continued booting of the working masses into line has to be at least tried to be held back a bit somewhere.

Knock it down and put a Costa or Starbucks or Pret or Eat or some other fad food shop.

The sooner  Glasgow is the same as the hundreds of other identi-kit cities around Europe, then the better.

Is there a wankier chain than that Pret A Manger ? I think not. Lunchtime for complete whoppers

Signed.

Mate used to work in the offices next to it so used to pop in fairly regularly for a Friday pint, not been in for about 6 months though.

Lauders is closed down now too due to the fire, so would be a shame to see another traditional boozer close down so close by.

It's truly one of the worst pubs in Glasgow and the building with Paddy Power and The Blue Lagoon next door is a travesty, but I'm not entirely sure that getting rid of another boozer where the working class enjoy a pint and replacing with another identikit hotel is the right decision.

I can think of umpteen pubs that are far, far worse than it off the top of my head.

Hoops, Bar 67, Saracen Head, The Squirrel, St Vincents (utter toilet of a place for a city centre boozer), Old Govan Arms, Tall Cranes, Lord Nelson, Bristol Bar, Louden (Duke Street), Grant Arms.....I could go on and on and name about another 20 or so pubs that are worse than the Iron Horse and I'm by no lover of it as a pub other than a quick pint.

Much better traditional pubs in the town like The State, Admiral, Bon Accord etc.

I'd agree with all of those aye, the city centre specialises in some truly horrific establishments.

Half the pubs you've mentioned only open on a Celtic matchday. Solely designed for Celtic fans to get mwi and sing rebel songs.

They aren't really comparable to a city centre pub that opens every day and serves food.

What ones are only open match day? Hoops & Bar 67? Pretty sure the others open during the week. Christ the Emerald even opened during the week.

I was gonna add Spirit but think it's closed down now!

As for match day pubs, Turnstiles is the pick of the bunch - absolute midden!

Squirrel and Sari are only opened on matchday now too, have been for a while actually. Same with Kerry's bar(or whatever name it has this week).

You're right about the Spirit, it's gone now. The whistling Kirk is still going strong though and has an 8am licence.

I was in the Sarry Heid a few months back before a gig?

No sure where Kerry's is but add Kelly's to another list of shiteholes haha!

Whistling Kirk is actually a decent enough boozer all things considered. Used to live round corner from it on St Andrews Square - doesn't attract the same dregs as the Gallowgate does. I was actually in it after the last Old Firm game meeting a mate from school who was over from Alaska for the game (wasn't my choice of venue!)
