PASTA Mick
In exactly 4 years time, the 2022 World Cup will have begun in Qatar. The qualifying draw is scheduled to take place in July 2019. It is likely that only the 2 games in March 2019 will be added before the pots are decided. The qualification process for the 2022 World Cup has not yet been announced. However, it has been decided that UEFA will have 13 teams. If they use the same format as last time (9 groups, best 8 runners-up in a play-off), then the pots would look like, based on this months matches being included - POT 1 1. Belgium, 2. France, 3.Croatia, 4. England, 5. Portugal, 6. Switzerland, 7. Denmark, 8. Spain, 9. Sweden. POT 2 1. Netherlands, 2. Germany, 3. Italy, 4. Wales, 5. Poland, 6. Austria, 7. Romania, 8. Slovakia, 9. Ukraine. POT 3 1. Serbia, 2. Bosnia, 3. Ireland, 4. N Ireland, 5. Iceland, 6. Scotland, 7. Turkey, 8. Czech Rep, 9. Greece. POT 4 1. Montenegro, 2. Bulgaria, 3. Norway, 4. Russia, 5. Hungary, 6. Finland, 7. Albania, 8. Slovenia, 9. Macedonia. POT 5 1. Belarus, 2. Luxembourg, 3. Cyprus, 4. Georgia, 5. Israel, 6. Estonia, 7. Faroe Islands [UP-TO-DATE DATA STOPS HERE] So the good news is that our two results this week have put us in a good place for being in Pot 3 rather than Pot 4. The bad news is a top 2 finish looks tricky regardless of which combo we get from pots 1, 2 and 4. France, Germany and Russia is a possibility. However, so is Sweden, Wales and Albania. There will be some movement after the 2 matches in March but the way the FIFA rankings are calculated now means change is very slow, both moving up with good results and dropping down with bad results. Malcolm
Going to be very difficult, almost with any draw. W
PASTA Mick
Talk on the radio about FIFA wanting to extend to 48 teams. I'm sure UEFA won't get too many more spaces if this does happen but I don't think it will change this time.

That would give us a slightly better chance of making it I suppose but it wouldn’t make much of a difference. There’s enough dross at the World Cup as it is without adding more crap teams. FIFA and UEFA are determined to water down their flagship events for more ticket sales and tv money. UEFA are also considering a 32 team European Championship for 2024 or 2028. That would just be ridiculous.
