Backed a horse today and it won at 8/1. William Hill paid me my winnings. 10 mins later after using some of the winnings for other bets my account went in to a minus, 2 mins later money back in my account, 2 mins later minus again. Checked the race result and noticed my horse was disqualified. Looked on line and discovered that William Hill pay first past the post. Contacted them and was told because my horse was carrying the wrong weight the first past the post guarantee was void. Think this is pish, should of at least got my original bet returned IMO. Does anyone know if this is usual practice?

Found this answer for my own question.

FPTP rules mean that the immediate result will get paid out on as will the official result, which is announced after the weigh-in and any steward’s enquiries have been taken into account. Should a winner be disqualified in the aftermath of the announcement of the official result then it won’t affect your ability to claim your bet as a winner.

There are some exceptions to this. If the horse takes the wrong course, for example, carries the wrong weight or the jockey fails to weigh-in altogether. Also, if a horse is called the winner in error then you won’t get paid on that, either.

This used to be a long standing joke between me and my older cousin from the days when the bookies shop was known as the blower - blower because it was radio commentary only

If either of us had bet a second and had a look of disgust and disappointment we would look at the other and say "objection by the clerk of the scales" as a joke

Surprisingly it did happen occasionally and we benefited

Not so much these modern days

Cheers, lesson learned.

no but if you kick up a bit of fuss you'll probably get some money back as a goodwill gesture.

Absolutely not a chance

Getting disqualified for carrying the wrong weight, particularly to a winner, happens once in a blue moon

This is why online bookies pay you out before they have weighed in - in the old days you had to wait

Kicked up a fuss but as Ally bongo said not a chance. Got an email from them saying basically tough shit the rules are.........Wasn't a lot of money but i spat the dummy out and said i won't be using them again. Probably all bookies have the same process. Hey ho, as i said lesson learned.

Yep - It's universal

When you think about it the reason is obvious as it's gaining an unfair advantage from the other runners right from the off

The handicapper uses the "pound per length formula"

  • 5 Furlongs: 3 pounds per length.
  • 6 Furlongs: 2.5 pounds per length.
  • 78 Furlongs: 2 pounds per length.
  • 910 Furlongs: 1.75 pounds per length.
  • 1113 Furlongs: 1.5 pounds per length.
  • 14 Furlongs: 1.25 pounds per length.
  • 15+ Furlongs: 1 pound per length.

So if it turns out a horse is carrying 3lb less from it's allotted weight in a 5 furlong race then it has gained a length

Who the fuck are you, the grammar police? If you can't answer the question asked then don't get involved in the thread.

Oops. I thought the internet age old thing of picking up on a grammer error and getting a ballistic overreaction had become a bit of a self parody and was just regarded now as a bit of good natured fun.

Fkin smart arse if that's all you've got to contribute just ...well just fuck you utter utter utter fkucknut I'm borderline dyslexic but you don't care I hope you etc etc.........

Perhaps you should consider using some punctuation; possibly immediately before 'fkucknut', and arguably just after 'arse'. Your writing shows promise and I would like to read the end of your sentence. Well done.

Nah, punctuation in an internet rant, never. Punctuation would only serve to break up the natural flow of released pent up rage. Could've made better use of random capitals right enough.

Oh, that's nothing.

Coral are probably the best online bookmakers as they have a brilliant loyalty system (If you deposit a certain amount, as well as bet with a certain amount, on a monthly basis, they give you 10 free spins on the casino - Play "Gods of war" and you'll win 1 out of 3 times - a coupe of free "£5 build your bets" as well as them literally giving you cash back. One month they gave me £100 in cash back.)

The trick is to deposit x amount of money, then withdraw it, and repeat till you've reached the loyalty threshold. And if you wager £50 x 30 times on sporting events that have the odds of 0.1 or below, you'll reach the threshold.

Their tennis betting leaves a lot to be desired.

Let's say a tennis match is voided, because a player retires injured, you'd think that because the match is classed as void you'd get your stake back, right? Wrong. If it's your player that retires you'll lose your stake, even if your player is in a winning position at the time of retiring.

I lost £90 learning that bit of information.

Oh, another tip, and this is regarding all online bookmakers, always use PayPal as a way to withdraw your money. This way you only have to wait a few hours to have access to your money, as opposed to withdrawing to a debit card where you'll have to wait 3-5 days.

On a weekly basis, I meant.
