It means the cup winners start a round earlier than Aberdeen did this season. We are currently ranked 23rd due to this season's performances which mean we would be back to the same position for the 20/21 season as we are this season (cup winner starting a round later). We need to get to 17th in the table to see more improvements. That would mean 1 less round for 3 of our 4 teams. Currently Sweden, Poland, Belarus, Serbia, Cyprus and Switzerland are between us and 17th place. Getting that high this season is unrealistic. I think we'd need all 3 teams to reach the knock-out stages to get near it but I've not actually worked that out. 15th in the rankings would get us a 5th team in Europe. 15/16 was a poor year for the league so we are stuck with that until 20/21. Were do we need to be for 2 CL (qualifying) spots?

According to the chap on Twitter I follow, to reach 15th, and all the advantages that go with it, we'd need an extra 6.5pts. That'd pretty much require every Scottish club to contribute an extra qualifying win and draw each year for 5 straight years.
PASTA Mick
We have a good chance of overtaking Sweden and Poland this year. Sweden just have Malmo left (1-1 in CL) and Poland have 3 teams in the EL that all lost their first leg (1-2, 0-2 and 0-1). Belarus, Serbia and Cyprus are all doing okay this year and I can't see us getting near them.

It's also vitally important that Celtic (or whoever's our Champions League representative in future years) gets to the group stage, as that would earn us an entire point by itself (without taking into account the wins/draws on the way through the qualifiers). If Celtic were to reach the group stages this season, the minimum amount of points that Scotland would have is 4.500 - three draws and the bonus points for reaching the CL group stages. The maximum - with Celtic, Rangers and Hibs winning all their qualifiers until the group stages - would be 6.375. That 4.500 figure would be our best season since 2007-08, when Rangers reached the UEFA Cup final and Celtic and Aberdeen were in the knockout rounds of the Champions League and UEFA Cup respectively. It is vital but also very tricky. We need to beat the Champions of 4 countries. 3 of which are in a similar position to us in the rankings. Aberdeen got a round head start on Rangers and Hibs but then drew one of the better teams. So luck comes into it as well.

Celtic's has been OK but AEK are always going to be tough.
