mccaughey85 Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Should be a good move for Gunn if he's playing every week. Going to be a hell of a commute for our games though. Just hope he's happy to do it. Maybe best to let him miss our friendlies although we don't have many of them anymore. Quote

I don't think he will quit but it's important to remember that he didn't actually want to play for us initially and I always got the impression that hes very much there just to play international football which is fair enough. We really need him though and we can't afford for him to decide he doesn't want to bother travelling half the world for a country that was his second choice to represent. Quote
csinclair Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Gunn posted this just over a week ago. Hardly the words of a guy who’s about to give up international football Quote

giblet Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Celtic apparently back in for Bowie as now Verona have said 13 million to take them off their hands. Cant see Celtic paying that when they could have got him for less than half that 6 months ago. Hopefully a nice wee sell on fee for the Hibees if Bologna or whoever buy him at that. Quote

That was my immediate first thought, but I wouldn’t say he hasn’t been committed to us. SFA sticking him in economy class might change things. Quote

Hopefully he tells Celtic where to go. Like Ferguson, Bowie is another who has too much potential to return to the mediocrity of the SPL at this stage in his career. Quote
syecosse Posted July 10 Posted July 10 Esseosa Sule is to join St.Mirren on a permanent deal, including fee and a number of add ons, had a number of offers elsewhere. Quote

St.Mirren have now bought a few boys involved in the Scots youth set up so hopefully works out, Sule,Carr the boy Fieldson has stepped up from the championship that is rated highly and Dylan Reid on trial. Yes, hope they do well. They also had the kid Douglas who did well at the end of the season. Big difference to most of their games last season when only Fraser or Ohara was their Scottish connection under Robinson. Quote

It pains me to say it, because I really like him, but I suspect his time with thr national team could be over. Especially if we get a foreign manager. No one is going to look at his stats over the past 3+ years and think he is worthy of being in the squad. Not with the form of Ure, Shankland and Bowie. Even Nisbet, Stewart, Hirst and Adams have better stats. The only way he stays in is if the new manager is Scottish and was a big fan of what he has done specifically for Scotland the past 7 years. Yeah unless he has a great season then I can only see him being picked for continuity/dressing room cohesion. Can probably get away with that now with bigger squads Quote
kumnio Posted July 10 Posted July 10 I like Dykes (oh er) but it's quite damning that he has over 50 caps. He hasn't earned hip caps over the last few years IMO. Quote

I think we need something of a re-set in the striker department. Adams I’d keep, but I think we should really be concentrating on getting in younger players. Bowie and Ure for Dykes, Hirst and Stewart. Maybe one of the Wilsons will step forward for the other spot. Alternatively, although not a young player, I think Burke can give us something different for 3 or 4 years but probably playing off a striker. I’m not sure about Shankland. I suppose he could be useful off the bench in qualifying games for the Nations League but the clock is very much ticking given his body shape. Although, quite young, I’m not really sold on Conway. If he was a really good striker I don’t think he would be filling in on the left side for club and country. So out with much of the old guard to give the younger players the experience they will need if they are to be effective further down the line, even if there’s an argument they won’t be as good as what they’re replacing in the short term. Totally agree. We need to be thinking about the future. And it's not like we'd be dropping talismanic legends to do so in the way we would for left back and midfield. The drop in quality, if there is one, would be very small in comparison. Shankland's place is secure for now, especially if he hits the ground running with Rangers. But, you're right, he doesn't have the athleticism to make an impact against elite teams. However, he's probably our best striker at the minute. Adams can stay but my hot take is he never should have been a striker. He should have been an attacking midfielder his whole career. He doesn't have the instincts of a striker, but has everything you need to be a midfielder. Ure, Bowie and possibly B.Stewart should be in the next few squads to see how they fair. Agreed, I'm not sold on Conway either. But he's young, so the door can stay open for him if his form merits it. Edited July 11 by Tartan blood Quote

He should be as starter against quality opposition because he simply isn't at that level Quote
