Southampton have had a bid accepted for talented Queens park LB Harris Afzal 16, a number of other sides also interested.

The number of very young players being picked up by clubs down south seems to have accelerated over the last couple of years even if the absolute number going down has not. I wonder if it is because English clubs are doing more scouting up here now (post-Brexit), if they have decided there is talent but it is wasted by poor Scottish development outcomes by the time they are a bit older, or if it is a mix of those two things.

Could it be to do with them not being able to sign European youngsters due to brexit so they’re filling their academies with “Brit” youngsters 🤔

Well that's my first suggested reason so I agree that could be part of it. It's the fact they are going for ever younger players that I am speculating on specifically though. Guys like Rory Wilson or Billy Gilmour were picked up later than the boys are being picked up now; why is that? There is certainly no shortage of young English players so either they think our lads are better than the equivalent English boys available to them at that age or they think our lads need to be taken out of our system younger to reach their potential.

I think they are just hoovering up talent because they have obscene amounts of money.

Just catching up with how things have shaken out recently looks like a few solid moves have already been made with players like Jamie McGrath heading to Hibs and loan deals like Adil Aouchiche at Aberdeen adding some decent depth. Rumours are still buzzing about Rangers and Celtic weighing up options too, so should be an interesting summer if those links turn into deals.

I think you might have missed the point of this thread, nobody in this one cares about Irishman McGrath or Frenchman Aouchiche.

They've had obscene amounts of money for a long time without being particularly fussed about Scottish youth footballers.

Rumoured to be off to Man City, the very talented Hearts youngster Keir McMeekin is now being chased by England now, will be disapointing as this was the same thing that happened with Ben Vickery when he went down south.

Kyle Glasgow has had his deal announced to stay at Rangers and again been named with our u17s Scotland squad.

If we produce three players, properly homegrown through our system, who are good enough for tier 1 international teams and they all go and play for someone else it would be peak Scotland.

Been reported Keir McMeekin is completing his move from Hearts to Man City for around 2M plus add ons, really hope he does not go on to play for them, lets hope he is more Caelen Cadamateri than Ben Vickery at City.

£2m is wild. I know that the English clubs can afford it but it is still crazy.

Hopefully it's another incentive for Scottish clubs to develop players though, if they are getting £2m+ for a youth team player, albeit a standout one.

Vickery sounds English, so I'm guessing his dad is? We can be disappointed but can't complain when they choose due to a parent, I suppose, especially as England will have so many superior facilities for kids to train in. If Cadamateri is good enough but still stays with us it'll be a major coup considering how little his connection to Scotland is. Don't know about McKeekin but again let's hope his heart feels Scottish even if he prefers to train with the English at youth level.

Sun said grandparents for qualification for NI and England. Maybe a parent for NI given his first name though I would suspect

He is not in our u17 squad for the upcoming games which seems pretty ominous

Is keir not considered Scottish?

It is; e.g. Keir Hardie.

There is a lot of overlap with Scots names in Ireland though, and vice versa, which I am sure we are all aware of.

How does McKeekin actually qualify for them ? Have I missed something

It hasn't been made clear, as far as I can tell.

Have England not got enough players of their own though, FFS. 🙄
