The SPL is going to lose a lot of young players like this now. Brexit has stopped the English sides being able to fill their academies with young foreigners. They'll pick up the cream of the crop from here, Ireland and n.ireland to supplement that loss.

Could be good for the national team if they develop or they could just as equally get lost in the system.

It also weakens the SPL longer term, as the best young talent will go at 16/17, instead of playing here until 21-23.

They might get loaned back though so could be win-win. Not sure Brexit has that much to do with it; English clubs were nicking players from schooldays long before the EU was functioning. Maybe the fact that more money is there to swell the academies is perhaps nearer the truth.

Not from overseas though.

Trying to watch the Scottish contingent for Norwich just now but not sure if I can stand listening to that bellend Shearer for much longer! What a repetitive tool of a man 😴

Sorry, posted in wrong thread, should've been Scottish players in action 😚

Daily Record reporting that Tony Watt is signing for Dundee United:

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/tony-watt-dundee-united-transfer-25780693

So after years of moving from club to club he finally finds one that suits him - and he leaves at the first opportunity. 🤷‍♂️

Looks like he has signed a pre-contract with them. What a bizarre sideways move.

Isn't it just?

There were rumours that Lawrence Shankland was on silly money when he was there, maybe they've offered Tony Watt something similar.

Do Dundee Utd really have that much more money than Motherwell?

What if he scores another 10 goals and ends up on 20 goals for the season. You'd think he'd have far more lucrative offers than Dundee Utd coming in. At his age, the next step is vital, so this one seems odd. A bit like when O'Donnell went from Kilmarnock to Motherwell at the same age.

No idea. I had heard United had squillionaire American investors but then they let Lawrence Shankland go for buttons, which suggests they were trying to recoup their losses as quickly as possible - which isn't something you'd expect a club with loads of cash to do.

But aye, it is a strange decision to make. I don't know about their finances but Motherwell have certainly spent longer in the top flight than United over the last 20 years. I hope for his sake he doesn't live to regret his decision.

One of the lads at work reckons Watt is on something like £1.5k a week at Motherwell and that DUFC offered double so...

I've heard all sorts of stuff, ranging from he is currently on 1k a week and Utd are giving him 5k...to we currently pay him 2k and he's moving for 2.5k. Also heard mwell only offered a 1 year deal while Utd offered 3. Also heard that he wanted parity with what we are paying Liam Kelly...

...over and above all that though, I'm just slightly perplexed that he has dived at the 1st contract offer that's come in, while his stock is high I'd have expected a few offers to come his way
