Neymar is a greetin faced wee prick. The boy has talent but there is no need for his behaviour.

Isn't that just one of the classic football roles you need, like midfield dynamo, prima donna, wise old head, talisman, hatchet man, etc.

That’s now four world cups in a row that the Swiss have qualified for what are we doing wrong

Switzerland are better than us, and would’ve beaten us on tonight’s showing, but they were just a well organised, reasonably disciplined team with good management and probably a bit better at “the dark arts” than we’ll ever be.

I don’t think we can aspire to be much more than they were tonight, but I’d take that.

VAR not been great so far, flagged up a soft penalty (but probably a penalty despite mark lawrensons complaints) to France, but chose to ignore a 2 hands in the back push for Swiss goal and the Fernandinho (?) penalty claim where the guy had 2 arms round his waist pulling him back.

If the Brazil penalty claim happens anywhere else on the park it’s a nailed on FK.

(I have backed Brazil for tournament  )

Canny really disagree with that

There was some guy from the Economist on Radio Scotland the other day. They'd done in depth analysis of a whole load of international teams. He did say (no surprise) that Scotland have actually not underperformed versus expectations. Although one thing that stood out among smaller nations that do well is that they have a much higher percentage of players at the top level of high ranked leagues away from their own domestic league.

The average position of each nation's player's league in the UEFA coefficient ranking in our qualifying group is interesting to look at (based on their last competitive squad):

  • England - 2.0 (every player plays in the Premier League)
  • Slovenia - 11.3
  • Slovakia - 12.1
  • Scotland - 17.5 (I had to estimate the rank the English Championship would have at 18.5).
  • Lithuania - 27.4
  • Malta - 45.4

In general, the point is that our main opposition have their players playing in a higher standard league than we do.

The VAR thing won't really change the debate over contentious decisions. It just moves the debate to contentious VAR decisions.

So perhaps the original decision should stand unless it’s a clear and obvious mistake or a matter of fact?

Cannae believe the Nigels are only taking 2,500 to tonights game.

Shitebags. They were more and happy to run riot in places like Paris and Amsterdam over the last year or so and across Europe for decades but a wee hint of them not getting to bully the locals and they stay away en masse.

Mental innit, especially when you see the numbers there from places like Mexico, Peru and Australia.

Our youth development is shit, our domestic setup is shit, our coaching is shit and our own TV coverage is dominated by a foreign league.

Allegedly they do. The Peru FA officially sold tickets to 43,000 fans.

It's their first World Cup since Cubillas was playing, Spain 82.

Anyone know how many players from Scottish clubs are in the squads of nations playing in Russia?

Without checking I'd imagine it'll be the four Celtic players (Boyata, Rogic, Gamboa + Lustig) plus Alves and Arnasen.

There's a Hibs boy floating about too actually!

Did the sheep not release Arnason? Jamie McLaren (Hibs) is in the Aussie squad, not sure if he got on against France the other day as I didn't see the game.
