What is that free sports channel?  Is that on a free view station?

It's a Freeview HD channel (not non-HD Freeview for some reason) owned by Premier Sports - channel 95. It's available on Sky (424), Freesat (252), BT TV (95) and TalkTalk TV (95) too. It can also be found here: https://tvplayer.com/watch/freesports (you need to register to the platform to watch - just an email address and password).

They've got an ever growing range of live football, including Portuguese and Belgian top flight games, Spanish second division games and I think they've got the rights to Argentina's top flight and the League of Ireland. They've had a number of youth international matches on recently and they've got a couple of friendly games coming up including Northern Ireland's game. Wouldn't be surprised if one of our away friendlies ends up on there at some point.

I watched some of the England vs Ireland Schoolboys match in the Centenary Shield and it's standard sort of coverage that you'd expect. They didn't have anyone in a studio, but the commentators gave some analysis of the game during half-time. A good channel for sporting coverage, especially as it's free.

A couple of updates to this week's list:

  • Friday 23rd March - Russia vs Brazil (16:00) - International Friendly - FreeSports
  • Sunday 25th March - Chelsea Ladies v Reading Women (14:00) - FA Women's Super League - BBC Red Button

  • Tuesday 27th March - England vs Italy (20:00) - International Friendly - STV

Great to finally see a Scotland matche on terrestrial TV in Scotland.

Its about time the SFA did everything they can to get all our games on BBC or STV instead of selling out to sky sports

I think Away games on council TV and home games on sky is fair enough.

Was that way for a few years.

The SFA deal with Sky expires at the end of the year. Hopefully they'll do a deal that allows either the BBC or STV to broadcast some matches live, even if it's in Gaelic on BBC Alba.

Why is Scottish football struggling? Because of an armchair army watching English football on tv.

Great thread indeed.

I'd say the real problem of "armchair army watching [English] football on tv" is the scheduling of another nation's league in free* primetime slots (and advertising/discussion of that nation's product all over British TV and radio in between matches) which makes that country's league(s) look like the be-all and end-all, with Scottish football sidelined. (*Even watching 'free' channels on TV, you help subsidise Match of the Day and 5 Live)

This thread shows there's a lot more than the EPL out there to watch, at different levels for the football enthusiast to get interested in.

I'd guess that someone actively watching Alcocorn v Gimnastic or The New Saints v Cefn Druids is more likely to go out and try the next Albion Rovers game, than someone who happens to keep the telly on for Match of the Day because they can't be arsed changing channel after the news.

Alloa v Ayr Utd is live on BBC Alba on Sunday 22nd, 4.10 pm kick off.  Depending on the Stranraer v Raith Rovers result on Saturday it could see Ayr clinch the League 1 title, or could see Raith sitting a point clear with 1 game to go.

You should be able to get RoI v Wales on S4C through bbc red button tonight if you’ve not got sky.

Cant imagine it will be a festival of free flowing football, but an interesting game with a bit at stake, including Martin O’neills Job I’d expect.

Scotland U21 on bbc website too.
