TAMB Posting Stats

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this is of any interest to TAMBers and/or indeed TAMB owners ?

I'm a bit of a saddo I know but I was curious as to traffic since the new TAMB in November so I took a note of the number of posts every few weeks.

Here's the numbers broken down per section and showing an average number of posts per day at over this period.

    Posts per day

Date   Days TA Specific Home Away Football Anything Goes Other Sport Total per day
06-Nov-17
19-Nov-17     13 93 6 3 24 21 5 165
30-Nov-17     11 20 1 1 60 22 3 117
10-Dec-17     10 15 0 1 63 24 1 114
24-Dec-17     14 23 1 0 38 34 3 113
03-Jan-18     10 17 1 1 29 48 2 108
24-Jan-18     21 60 1 12 12 55 4 165
28-Jan-18      4 96 7 31 54 27 1 220
01-Feb-18      4 105 1 24 94 28 3 258
07-Feb-18      6 130 3 14 23 31 7 212

It was me, 32 times. I am just waiting for coronation st on itv 2.

How do they compare to the stats pre ‘board reincarnation’?

Sorry, just got distracted by a Johnny Depp aftershave advert there ❤️

I've no idea but I thought I'd keep an eye on it after the TAMB closure announcement a few months earlier and the saved.

Certain sections/dates do tell a story though in terms of lack of Scotland matches, Xmas lull, then announcements of friendlies, MON not taking the job, Nations League draw etc.

I think these things then draw people to the TAMB and then they might also check other sections whilst they are logged on. Seasonal ups and downs really.

Are 'the saved' a special category of TAMBer for statistical purposes?

Well, I'm not sure how useful this is, but I've been making rough estimates (the imperfect methodology is explained here) of posting quantity for the month of May over the past few years:

May 2009: 21,292 posts

May 2010: 16,895 posts (I think Reeky Sporran might have been suspended)

May 2011: 24,602 posts

May 2012: 19,106 posts

May 2013: 14,696 posts

May 2014: 17,434 posts

May 2015: 17,943 posts

May 2016: 9,505 posts

May 2017: 6160 posts

Now, we could average Fringo's daily averages (163.5) and multiply by 31 giving us 5,068 but that's hardly fair as there appears to have been a line-of-best-fit rise in posting over the three-month spread of Fringo's analysis. What we need is for someone to take the daily numbers for 31 consecutive days, and Fringo's clearly the man to do it :ok:

Ah well, I've just used my rough-estimate method on the past 31 days (possibly slightly skewed by time-zone differences) and I get a total of 6,018. That would suggest little difference between the past month and the month of May last year. Still, it felt like things continued to decline further between last May and the announcement of the board's closure, so maybe there's a bit of an upturn ...

I was so gobsmacked by them that I was rendered speechless (or whatever the keyboard equivalent is?). Having had a quick look, I decided that I would need a lot more time to fully analyse them to the degree of scrutiny that they deserve.:ok:

Interesting stuff.  We've installed some analytic stuff to keep an eye on things and see if we can use it to improve things, it's quite early to try and pick out any patterns but always interesting.

Cool. I'm running out of pens and paper

Tbh it wasn't the work of years but that of an hour or so in the old board archive, but like you I am sadly intrigued by the ebb and flow of board traffic.

Me too. My rather brief and crude stats do show a little how traffic is seasonal and/or triggered by planned and unplanned events.

It was unscientific and raw/occasional but does show spikes dependant on events e.g. games/no games, fixture announcements, manager speculation etc in relation to Scotland games as well as other footballs news, political events, sports events.

I think we'd see more posts if there were less sections.

Merge TA specific with Home Games.

Get rid of the Other Sports sections, all that can do in Anything goes. At the very least get rid of the rugby section.

It's better to have a few faster moving sections than lots of slow moving sections.
