Finally got round to seeing Neds. Better than i thought it would be, I thought it would be all just gangland/glue/broken home stuff but more about growing up, friends, fitting in, with just a bit of gang/glue/home mixed in.

A Man called Horse ? Not heard of the one you mention.

Cheers.

Different movie

Man in the Wilderness was another of Harris's films of that era

Believe Dennis Waterman is in it too - but he didnt write the film score ...

Thanks for the info. Cinematography isn't really a selling point if that's the best it's got to offer.

What i was meaning is that it's basically the same story - but obviously upgraded to current day filming (and acting) techniques

So if you dont know the story then give it a go

Quite harrowing in parts

Although I'll now be looking out for a younger version of Dennis Waterman to appear (maybe in a bear costume?).

Watched "The Disaster Artist" at the weekend.  Based on the true story of the making of the film "The Room" back in the early 90s, widely regarded as one of the worst films ever made and one that subsequently now has a massive cult following.  I really enjoyed it!  James Franco is excellent as the eccentric and downright weird Tommy Wiseau who funded, produced, wrote, directed and "starred" in the movie in question.  It's such a bizarre story and he's such a mysterious character that you can't help getting absorbed in to it.

Calibre - Netflix movie set in Scotland.

Pretty good actually. A lot of it shot up in the Leedhulls.

2 city slickers go off hunting in the sticks.

Don't watch the trailer as it gives up too much of the story.

I watched the trailer and deduced from that, that it is a heap of shite

Was it expecting it to be pretty poor but it was in fact very watchable 👍

Saw Lady Macbeth on DVD. (It came out in 2017 but just catching up). It's based on a Russian story written in 1864, the film is set in rural England around that time. There is thankfully only a loose connection to The Scottish Play,  and it would work well as a story without having to namedrop Lady M. The original novella - described as depicting " almost unrelieved wickedness and passion", - was "ignored by contemporary critics but praised decades later as [a] masterpiece, containing powerful depictions of highly expressive female characters from different classes and walks of life." Quite modern and feisty in that respect, than your typical Victorian costume drama.

They Shall Not Grow Old was utterly mesmerising.  Good that every secondary school in the UK is being shown it as I'd say it's educationally essential.

What would you say is the over-riding lesson or theme of the movie?

There was much to be taken from it. The hopelessness of war, the dangers of blind obedience, the fact that your enemy is a potential friend with a different leader.

I just kept thinking of what my grandpa and his comrades must've been witnessing. The fact that the film was so realistically enhanced made that sensation all the more clear.
