If Taylor wins he will face Regis Prograis in the 140lb final. Winner of Inoue v Rodriguez will face Nonito Donaire. I like the format. Superb chance for boxing fans here to see Inoue in the flesh. He'll go on to become an all time great. Agreed. This year should have been.huge for boxing, especially the heavyweight division. Instead we see joke fights and amir Khan pick a big day to battered again 🤣

It's actually becoming a stretch to call it a sport anymore as it is completely dominated by the theatre and politics outside the ring. Sickened with it. Thank god for WBSS.

You could also be describing football with that sentance Like football, boxing remains hugely popular and unless fans see through the bull shit and start voting with their feet, nothing will ever change
Lairdyfaeinverclyde Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 Good luck Josh Taylor tonight. Looking forward to this fight.
hampden_loon2878 Posted May 19, 2019 Posted May 19, 2019 Hes a cracking fighter, i hope he wins the super series, seems like a patriotic scot also 👍
Robbo `81 Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Well done to Taylor - Though he would win tournament from start, still do... One minor, recurring niggle...Seen a few reports that said along lines.. " Taylor joins Scots Boxing legends like Buchanan, Watt, McGowan and Lynch as a World Champion" ... So, exactly how many weights does Ricky Burns need to win world titles at to get any credit from Scottish media and fans ? 😠

phart Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 That was a surprising result, the Taylor fight was brilliant though.

If so then he is Frank Bruno II^c nah he actually got decked by Wlad and came back to win in impressive fashion. He looks too muscly now, thought he looked slower and eschewed head movement.
Toepoke Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 It's all Drake's fault... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-47947155

I heard through the grapevine he got concussed in training near lead up to fight. Also he couldn't get his normal TUE's for this fight. So a lot of rumours going around, maybe he just got beat. The fat mexican had a record of 33-1 or maybe 32-1 before this fight so he obviously can fight well. Steve Bunce has always been a favourite of mine ever since i was sitting up late one night watching BBC boxing (no idea who was fighting again) and the guy got this huge cut on his eyebrow, went back to the studio and Buncey goes "you could have twins through that" and everyone just went silent.
phart Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 Regis Prograis pulled out of the fight with Taylor citing money issues, anyone with the inside scoop?

phart Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 Seems like they had simliar bother before so might just be a face value deal. https://www.badlefthook.com/2019/1/30/18204608/ivan-baranchyk-drops-out-of-world-boxing-super-series With the World Boxing Super Series tournaments seemingly still on hold, IBF junior welterweight titleholder Ivan Baranchyk has dropped out of the 140-pound tournament, one of three currently running. ESPN reports that Baranchyk is leaving the tournament “due to frustrations over financial issues, a semifinal round that was supposed to take place between January and March and has still not been scheduled, and lack of communication from tournament organizers,” according to his manager David McWater.

Heard this news last night. Happy the fight is going ahead but it looks like WBSS is over after this year. Putting this final on a Matchroom boxing card (Sky PPV) indicates they wouldn't have been able to meet the financial commitments going it alone. It's a damn shame as I loved the format. It was the one shining light for me in a sea of corruption and bullshit in pro boxing. After this I probably won't be paying much, if any, attention to the sport.

It's really hard to disagree with you. This year should have been massive in boxing, if Ruiz hadn't beaten joshua it wouldn't have been a terrible year with all the big fighters avoiding each other, especially at heavyweight. Sky sports seemed desperate to give campbell credit for last night, for what exactly? Being a human punch bag for 12 rounds and getting paid for it?

As I said drifting further and further away from boxing. Doesn't surprise me the Sky commentary was horse shit though. They stopped being commentators a long time ago. Now just a cheering section for the Matchroom fighters. Junk.
