Its a pity I cant post photos as there was some classic vandalism to a Vote Kirstene Hair sign before the election. Basically read  vote Kirstene Hairy minge and the added bonus of an old school Hitler moustache on Hairs coupon.

Lovely stuff.

She really was the epitome of the Tories being absolutely desperate for anyone to stand, what a vacuous complete moron.

Brexit: UK government to enhance border checks at NI ports (tucked away in NI part of BBC news)

As The Guardian said today: "The checks were part of the deal struck by Johnson with the EU last October. However, to the astonishment of the EU, he spent the election campaign in December telling businesses there would be no checks. If they were asked to fill in any paperwork they could call him up and he would tell them to throw it in the bin."

So Johnson lied during the election, to avoid scrutiny on this crucial and "divisive" issue... the beginning of the end of the United Kingdon as we know it?

UK plan to undermine withdrawal treaty threatens Brexit trade talks

Quote

UK planning legislation to override key parts of #brexit withdrawal treaty and Northern Ireland protocol - a potentially HUGE move in negotiations; major ructions in Whitehall - my latest via @FT

Per three sources with knowledge of plans the UK Internal Market bill (due on Weds) and this autumn's Finance Bill will contain clauses that “eliminate the legal force of parts of the withdrawal agreement”. The EU are unlikely to like this - which I guess is the point /2

Given

insistence on the "precise implementation" of the Withdrawal Agreement, the decision to legislate in a way that dilutes those obligations - on State Aid, export summary declarations and tariffs - is not likely to go down well with the EU /3

A person familiar with the plans said they would “clearly and consciously” undermine the agreement on Northern Ireland that Boris Johnson signed last October - but which in the light of the diamond-hard Brexit he's negotiating, now looks very difficult. /4

A second person familiar with the plans said they were a "blunt instrument" that would directly "set up UK law in opposition with obligations under the withdrawal agreement, and in full cognisance that this will breach international law.” /5

A lot of Whitehall is *deeply* uncomfortable with this approach. Foreign Office not sure how it can criticise China for not meeting international obligation if UK is paring back obligations of a Treaty it signed in less than a year ago. Or help Int Trade dept sign deals /6

Is it a bluff, are they trolling, are they losing it?

The problem with brinksmanship like this is it becomes very difficult to climb back down from if/when there’s any level of compromise agreement.

Not quite sure how tearing up an international treaty a year after you’ve signed it works when you’re trying to encourage other countries to enter into treaties. Even if it were the worst deal in the world it doesn’t exactly look like your the sort of people who are prepared to live up to their commitments.

So Johnson saying the Withrawal Agreement he negotiated, signed and sold to the public is flawed, and wants to tear it up.

The Tories claiming there are 'unforeseen' problems with it (esp for N Ireland) despite fact these were all pointed out in December.

Bizarre scenario where they seem to be now claiming that when Johnson (apparently wrongly at the time) claimed there would be no customs paperwork, that thaty is now to be regarded the right version of the truth...

They won't get a good deal from the Yanks if the Good Friday Agreement is threatened. Unless of course if Trump gets in and he thinks a potential return to the dark days in Northern Ireland is a price worth paying in the name of a deal

Brexit party guy there, on Newsnight, saying something like, reneging on the Withdrawal Agreement is justified because the EU are rotters, they have it in for poor old Blighty, they weaponised Northern Ireland, that's why it's OK for us to renege on deal UK Govt just signed, and sold to, and just got rubber stampted by the Great British Public. As of it's the nasty EU's fault that we didn't read or understand the Withdrawal Agreement.

Doesn’t really matter if Trump wins in November or not as Congress has to pass any trade deal and the House of Representatives has a democrat majority and who knows what the Senate will look like after November as well.

The Irish are  probably the ethnic group with the biggest influence and most power in US politics.

Don’t think so

How many US presidents have had Irish heritage compared to Jewish heritage. How many house majority and minority leaders?  How many members of Congress self identify as Irish-Americans a small opposed to to Jewish-Americans.

Try reading some actual history instead of the anti-Semitic conspiracy guff that you’re so fond of.

The Irish Lobby... man that had me rolling. 😆

Don't want to take it off topic but this was a fascinating read 14 years ago and is just as relevant if not more so now. You don't realize the extent of it... 2006 this was published.

https://www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v28/n06/john-mearsheimer/the-israel-lobby

The mad thing is now you'd have to factor in the Epstein honeypot / blackmail operation.... one (of probably many) that we just happened to stumble upon.

But yeah, I am sure the Irish are far worse. lol.
