The Brexit Thread

So... Westminster   sending May back to Brussels... to try to ditch the backstop*... that EU have said is not negotiable.

* So basically they're agitating for UK to renege on the Good Friday Agreement.

Tories looking a tad smug tonight, having managed to agree with each other for once, backed by some Labour MPs (!).

Nigel wants to go back to a time when Europe was all sovereign states trading with each other

The problem with that is that up until 1914 war between nations was seen as a useful political tool every time there was a disagreement

Seems the right wing press is hailing the votes as a triumph for May. But, that would mean ripping up the backstop that she herself  agreed in December 2017, and that the same papers regarded as a triumph when she agreed it.  So they cheered on May as she caved into the EU and now they cheer her on as she caves in to the DUP to rip up what they cheered on in the first place.

Not only is the whole "Brady Amendment" a fucking con but so is the reporting of it by the media

The amendment is just for another 2 week delay - after two fucking years

And look how they have spun it

There is almost a blackout by the BBC in Scotland - no reporting of how the Scottish MPs voted

Listened to Radio 4 this morning and in fairness they gave the Brexit Secretary a bit of a hairy ride.  He got to waffle on for a while about last night being a victory before asking him what the alternative to the backstop was now considering they couldn’t negotiate it in 2 years.  He fumbled and stumbled before saying ‘Some form of technology’ and was laughed at pretty much although they did concede EU might well consider concessions at the 11th hour to protect their settlement payment.

The more interesting interview was the Irish Opposition leader, whose party support a minority government, who was originally pretty much left to answer the questions unopposed so long as it fitted the narrative of his invite.  When he went off a tangent and stated that his party had recognised that the Brexit discussion went beyond party politics, and that their mps had put party politics aside to protect the open border/ Good Friday Agreement, whereas HoC was more concerned toeing party lines the interviewer tried to shoot him down/shut him up throughout.  There was hints of colonialism about it as if it wasn’t acceptable for an Irish MP to be criticizing UK politicians.   It was a really strange reaction to a very interesting point about how the shambles has been handled this side.

The thing I hadn’t appreciated though is the government deadline is effectively two weeks whereas the 11th hour wobble they’re hoping on doesn’t hit EU really for another 7-8 weeks.  As such, the new negotiating stance seems akin to the Sheriff of Rock Ridge threatening to shoot himself in the face.

Good headline in News Thump today

Britain goes back to EU to tell them what they want, saying in Slower and Louder than last time.....

Sums it up for me really

The headline I read was something along the lines of ‘ Teresa May goes back to the EU to get told to fuck off in 27 different languages ‘

From the same military psyops specialists that gave us Brexit and Trump.

The @Conservatives have almost certainly deployed a government controlled psychological "weapon of war" and turned it against voters during General Elections in the UK.

Strong performance by Ian Blackford the other night.

Bigging up a letter from William Wallace to a 13th century Germanic state 500 years before a unified Germany.

That's the modern identity Mr Bloomberg courts in his croft holiday home.

(No confirm I voted Remain. I donated to Remain. I campaigned for Remain. I am not happy with any party handling of this.)

Whilst cleaning out my junk/scam email folder earlier I noticed there was one from a "T H E R E S A M A Y" and that I had to pay a $250 fee "immediately" if I wanted to avoid "deportation". :-))

The fecker used $ instead of £ the dozy prick

Anyone else get one of these or something similar ?

This could cut Independence off at the knees

Why?  The only thing that might delay independence, not stop it, is if Brexit was completely cancelled.  Brexit going ahead, even with a customs union and single market (and very unlikely that that will happen I suspect), doesn't wipe out the way Scotland has been treated like an abused spouse, ignored, belittled, threatened at every turn, our MPs shouted down any time they try to speak in the HoC.  Anyone who wouldn't vote for indy now, after seeing the way the last couple of years have gone frankly is a supine masochist, and beneath contempt.

I know that

Just imagine what the Unionist and media campaign would be if there is a single market and customs union arrangement

Scotland being treated like shite isnt a material change in circumstances

We should all get behind John Redwood and Jacob Rees Mogg at this juncture ....

Scotland has always been treated that way, I doubt that will influence your average no voter, most people don’t live in the daily politics bubble of Westminster and Holyrood, and despite what the media claims, Scottish nationalism is pretty mild compared to other independence movement. Convincing folk they and their kids might be better off leaving the union is the only way forward, probably
