The comedian Mark Thomas has been going on about this for best part of 15 years since i came across him.

And about 15 years before that. Mind watching his shows in the 90s. Sad that further generations of UK politicians have come to prominence since and the same agendas remain.

He managed to get secret footage of the arms sales by getting himself a stall in one.

I wonder what it is about some comedians that make them better investigative reporters than most journalists.

Aye true but lucky we have people like him to tell us what to think.

I wouldn't even put it as high as that.  I'd like to think that I'm fairly politically engaged but my knowledge of the EU and it's institutions is sketchy at best.  Out of my immediate group of friends, I think there's only one who doesn't have an even sketchier understanding than I do and he's a politics graduate.

A big part of the problem is that for the last forty years politicians of all parties - and eagerly assisted by the media - have been happy to characterise the EU as something that happens *over* there *to* us.

I wouldnt put it as high as this either, I was being generous , and working off a fairly loose interpretation of  ‘understand the EU’. I dont know a lot about it either.

It may be a democracy but it really is ridiculous the electorate was asked to vote on something of that magnitude when a large majority based their vote on no more than a bus with £350mio quid on the side and a promise to stop ‘those immigrants ‘ coming in.

The thing I’ve noticrd about Brexit and even with Trump is that the “left” don’t like the working class, and this comes through so much when they vote the wrong way.

I may  be repeating a previous quote but it is very obvious now versus socialism when I was grwoing up that these new younger 'socialists' don't give a shit about poor people anymore, they are just foils for them. Socialism now is not about caring about the poor it is about hating the rich (or even just the middle class). You have seen it on here over and over again...

I suspect that migration is being used as a means to divide and conquer folk. What happened in Libya and what’s happening in Syria etc isn’t mistakes and there’s a lot of political gain to be had from it.

Im neither pro or anti migration but can see why folk can fall into either category.

Immigration has been weaponized and not even that recently but the entirely engineered immigration crisis has taken this 'conventional' weapon and made it a 'nuclear' weapon. It is behind BREXIT and so many problems the EU is facing but the deep deep PC indoctrination has everyone paralyzed as it was intended to do.

Some amount of navel gazing on this thread. Yet nobody is addressing the elephant in the room , whats the score with those daft short cut jackets the Teresa May wears all the time.

They are not actually that short, she is very tall. Someone should introduce her to High and Mighty. That would be a perfect fit.

Makes a change from endlessly boring the shit out of us going on about 'god botherers'. Maybe that is what is annoying you.

I think I present wide ranging and interesting topics and opinions to the board, god bothering baiting is one of my favourites I must admit. Nice to see you've gave in and accepted that you must reply to someone '  so dumb it is not worth talking to.' Cheers.

That was when you seemed utterly baffled by 4D chess. I stand by it. Too thick to speak to if you cant work out that analogy. Quite the sensitive wee flower it seems...

Possibly because most comedy is about truths that are pretty hard to face, so have got to be wrapped up in a joke. If you want to create new jokes you've got to find out new truths and comedians like Mark Thomas with his strong political beliefs are prepared to go looking for them.

Yeah, I don't think I'm overly sensitive though.  On this board I've been accused of being 'so dumb it is not worth talking to', brain damaged, my mother being a junkie and that I'll go to the burny fire for eternity. It's only an the internet messageboard but.

Anyway, back to the important Brexit stuff, I've got a little bit of admiration for Teresa, battering on regardless, it's the utter silence from those on the sidelines of the Conserative upcoming party leadership battle that amazes me.

Yeah, that'll be what it is, I actually think it's 6d chess which is like 4d chess but includes the enigmatic 5d chess manoeuvres

Can the horsie thing still do an L shape in 4d chess. Is that the game they played on Star trek when it was on the telly.

On 4/8/2017 at 10:05 PM, phart said:

That's 3D chess.

On 4/8/2017 at 10:06 PM, thplinth said:

Do you mean the rook? Probably.

On star trek it may have been 3d chess. I think they had three chess boards stacked and you could move up and down boards as well as left or right. A normal board is 2d chess.

4d chess is when you have dimensions you cannot immediately perceive but if you did they would make sense of the moves.

You are so dumb it is not worth talking to.

On 4/8/2017 at 10:12 PM, Eisegerwind said:

Fcuk that's really mental, Donald trump is even more intelligent than telly Star Trek.

Decent argument to leave . . .

There appears to be a consensus that the vast majority of people don't understand how to do triple bypass surgery. Decent argument to stop it.

Haha very good.

My hearts pretty good just now ...

Is that not what a parliamentary democracy is about. We pay a bunch of people to learn about how to run a country, then we vote for the ones that we think will most closely agree with our views and then let them get on with it.

Me, not being an 'A' class intellectual, yes, that's basically it. Obviously a simplification, but , yes. It's a golf club committee, it's a Union committee, it's a football club committee, it's school gang committee it's a mother and toddlers club committee. It's full of people, lying, cheating, helping, assisting, being discriminatory, being bigoted, underhand deals, nepotism, caring about others, it's people being people. What it's not, is some global conspiracy as I think you are implying.

Maybe not a global conspiracy but I do believe at its core government is evil, for many of the reasons you mention, so the less of it the better which is probably were my opposition to the EU and the union comes from these days.

You'd be as well saying people are evil. That's probably up for debate. Then that's getting into god bothering territory and I've already been warned about that.
