She'll be thinking that this is ideal opportunity to increase majority over Labour and also nick some seats from SNP. Winning SNP seats will allow them to make great political gain from trotting out the lines that's Scotland doesn't want a referendum and SNP are on the slide. The currently held SNP seats I think they could win are West Aberdeenshire, Dumfries and Galloway, Berwick, Roxburgh and Selkirk.

Yip - probably wants the nation to vote now, rather than after Brexit..... Then it is all sealed for 5 years. Tactical games from the Tories. And subtle admission they wont get anything out of forthcoming EU negotations.

That wouldn't be good as if there is ever a yes vote for Independence it would put pressure for there to be a similar vote. Then the UK would be as awkward an unrealistic as possible to scupper it. Haggis_trap
That was outrageously British nationalistic speech.... Hopefully Scotland see through the games she is plays and stand by the SNP. We cant exactly win anymore seats
Orraloon
I wonder if this gives Nicola another option or just another annoyance that she could do without. When is she supposed to get the time to get on with her day job?

ErsatzThistle
The SNP constituency parties in Glasgow East and Edinburgh West will have to select new candidates won't they ? Unless the party chooses to back McGarry and Thomson as independent candidates.

min
So much for fixed term parliaments! Really can't be bothered with this just now - was struggling to cope with the local election campaign! This can only be bad for the SNP. With the Tories polling about double in Scotland compared to the 2015 GE, can easily see them getting 10+ seats at the expense of the SNP. Haggis_trap
The opposition parties UK wide should work together.... Select a single "stop brexit" opposition candidate in each seat to stand against the Tories.... This would need to be a pact to work. Put forward the existing MP / most popular candidate in region (.... irrespective of party) to reduce Tory majority. Play the Tories at their own political games.
