Naranjito82
My current passport expires June 2018 . I am going to New York for one week . My passport currently is one with a reinforced plastic 2/3rd back page of which the 2nd back page has the chip for facial recognition . Is my passport valid for the US at this stage ? Thanks . euan2020
I think so - alongside the ESTA registration ( i think that's name ) There was a series of passports issued around 2006 which could or could not be chipped I just looked at my 2 2009 issued passports and have visible chip (which i have used in USA) and my 2016 one which has hidden chip http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/world-news/what-biometric-passport-how-know-11294017 http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-36228034

euan2020
you might actually just also consider getting a new passport - If you surrender PP early, PP office will add up to 9 months onto your PP - so get nearly an 11 year PP - My June 16 one expires March 2027 - guess depends when you are going - certainly you can think of replacing September 2017 so not getting caught in holiday rush in spring/summer 2018 saying that i got my one in June in 3 hours in Glasgow
scottincarlisle
I sent my sons passport off after the Slovakia game & got his new one back in less than a week.
thewelk
I used one of those passports to fly to San Francisco last May. At that point the passport had just over a year left on it and the chip doesn't even work anymore (the lovely UK Border lads and lasses never tire of telling me that and insisting that I should replace it). If you've ever had an esta in the past you can use the fast track machines and cut off about half an hour of waiting.
