2017 movie thread

Saw T2: definitely worth seeing. Was interesting how characters had matured (or not) in different ways. Was trying to remember how much of Porno was in it; it seemed to be set further on in years from the original (than Porno), so seemed to get into some new maybe darker territory beyond the books... There were some flashbacks, some neatly evoking the first film, but others, for me, too often too literally revisiting. But overall I think the characters so convincing in their skins that they may overwrite the earlier ones a little (we may tend to think of 'Begbie' now as that middle aged guy, and 'Diane' as.... etc.) - (such is life) - and that may or may not be a good, thing, depending how attached you are to the original. Ultimately, your twenties are probably going to be more thrilling than forties, so the first one will always have the edge. But as with life, it's good to still be there at all...

thought t2 was just a tribute to the first film with the characters almost winking to the camera at times

great soundtrack and excellent acting but the plot was thin

worth seeing for nostalgic reasons (specially if you're from the capital) but then again just watch trainspotting

8/10

Pretty much agree with that, a bit too self-reverential at times. It's a really good film, but not a patch on the original. It actually made me want to read the original novel again, which is probably no bad thing.

I thought for a moment you meant 'self-referential' but 'self-reverential' hits the spot perfectly.

Stephen King apparently hated The Shining.

I believe him and Kubrick fell out.

Kubrick changed the script.

King's book was used by Kubrick as a subliminal vehicle to cleverly document what he couldn't otherwise say.

I know but you were actually closer to being right than you'd have known.

I've not seen the film and have no idea what's about.

Might check it out though.

I did watch Unbreakable a few years back. Was different and maybe worth checking out again.

How was hacksaw ridge? Going to the poctures tomorrow so either that or T2

I didn't like it. Just found the battle scenes unrealistic.

WW2 wasn't like Braveheart, the infantry did use tactics when attacking enemy positions. Charging headlong into machine guns, using a body like a shield. Purlese.

Found Doss really unmilitary. He wants to be there, but he's slouching around talking to officers like they are his friend. Just wouldn't happen like that.

That said, the guy was real, and won the Medal of Honour so Gibson bringing his story to the masses should be applauded.

Watched T2 last night. Throughly enjoyed it. I'd go see that if it's a toss up.

It's really good. I watched it not knowing anything about it and thought it was amazing. Got Mrs Fugitive to watch it last week and she really enjoyed it too.

All the more amazing for being true !

If you want a War film/mini series that's as about as real as you can get, watch Babd of Brothers.

For me that's the benchmark.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Edit - hated The Hurt Locker and it won multiple oscars. Again a load of nonsense from a military perspective. A team of IOD technitions acting impulsively and tearing around Baghdad, not to mention getting into a firefight on their own in the middle of the desert.

Again, watch the miniseries "Generation Kill", for some of the real deal 2003 Gulf War.

Third series coming soon. Was originally called Masters of the Air, now called The Mighty Eighth.

Just watched Patriots' Day. Pretty good couple of hours.

saw T2 last night. really enjoyed it. a lot of harking back to the original in a nostalgic sort of way but done extremely well and the two movies knotted together very well by danny boyle. some very amusing bits too.

I enjoyed it.  Had to change my PIN number after it mind you but I still enjoyed it!!

Watched fences tonight. Didn't know much about it apart from that denzel was in it and that it was getting touted for some acting nominations.

One of those rare times where I didn't know what a film was about or how it was gonna pan out during it. Enjoyed it and I think that added to it
