  1. Jackson was a better player than Shankland or Brown...Boyd was a far better player than ever given credit for
  2. Beating Croatia or Sweden when they were good is obviously a good achievement but neither are 'big' footballing nations...England, Spain, France, Italy, Germany and Netherlands...beat any of them and you've beat a big European team
  3. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1998_FIFA_World_Cup_squads Goalkeeper, defender, midfield all with plenty of strength in depth. Forward areas a bit hit and miss (what's new), but I wouldn't mind Durie and Kevin Gallacher in our current squad
  4. Thought McTominay showed last night what he is all about, he's been wasted at the back or in that holding role...full of energy, getting forward to support and being a right pain in the erse. That booking was utterly stupid though
  5. I think you have to go back to the squads of 1996 and 1998 to see an equal strength in depth to our current squad/player pool. Goalkeeper and centre forward are still areas of concern, but when you look at our starting back 5 last night and our midfield 4 we looked extremely solid but also a very significant danger to Spain. Robbo, Tierney, Hanley, Porteous and Hickey were tremendous to a man but backing them up you had Cooper and Patterson and that's before you consider the likes of Souttar and McKenna out injured and Doig/Taylor not selected. In the middle, we couldn't find a place for an in-form Lewis Ferguson or an out of form Billy Gilmour. An option or 2 up front would be good to see.
  6. I think you're misunderstanding what I mean...Kelly's confidence is shot to pieces playing for that absolutely honking team he is currently playing for, I'm not convinced on Clarks abilities either...BUT you are right, Clarke more than often goes with what he knows. My concern is should either or both of those guys get injured...who is next? We have no one, if we bring Gunn into the fold, he at least gives us a bit of depth to the position
  7. And also...no ma real name. You're a heidcase wee man
  8. Regardless if he is better than Clark or Kelly, to have another keeper that is of a decent level given the absolute dearth of options, means that we should be happy to take him into the fold...after Kelly (who's confidence must be through the floor) and Clark (who has only started playing because of Gordon's injury), we literally have no one, keepers either playing at really poor levels or sitting watching from the bench. Get the boy in...
  9. Did you cheer Stuart McCalls goal at Italia '90? You're as Scottish as Tim Hortons
  10. We are in such a monumental pickle on the goalkeeping front, that any news like this is good news. Gunn is a superior Goalkeeper to our 3 untested keepers and while it sticks in the craw given his previous rejections of us, I'm of a mind that we should 'use' him until someone better comes along
  11. Robertson putting crosses into the box for Salah, Diaz, Firminho and Jota is a completely different thing to putting a cross into the box for Lyndon Dykes on his own. Far too many of our players were way off it last night. Gordon to me looks just about done, but the manager clearly does not trust his back ups...its a huge problem. Tierney looked the rustiest I've ever seen him, while Gilmour looked like a competition winner. Ramsay is clearly not ready yet. Jacob Brown being flung up front was embarrassing, but hey that's what the McBurnie haters want.
  12. This doesn't fit in with Steelmans agenda
  13. Clarke has a habit of sticking by players dreadfully out of form, or just dreadful...looking at you Stevie O'Donnell...might be due to him wanting a consistent and club feel about squad gatherings, who knows
  14. You're the 1st person I've seen question it...but I'd be amazed if anyone can put together a coherent argument of what Brown offers that McBurnie does not.
  15. Of course, I get that but who knows, he's maybe sorted his napper out
  16. It's relevant because Stewart is being heralded as more worthy of caps than McBurnie...they are both the same age, McBurnie has played at a higher level and has more goals than Stewart at a good level of football
  17. Ah, the old 'he thinks Cellic are a disgrace of an establishment, so he must be a hun' line...well done, Mr Steelman, well done
  18. Haud on...Ralston, Turnbull, Taylor and Forrest are missing out on a cap (when all of them could be doing with stamping their place in the squad) to go on a jolly to Australia because Cellic need the cash to pay for lawyers due to the sordid stuff that everyone knows about? What a club indeed...
  19. Aye and he's he's scored 10 times the amount Stewart has done at the level they both current play at
