Playing in the top league in England, shouldn't automatically result in caps but playing (reasonably well, and certainly regularly from what I can gather) in any top league should catapult any player into the conversation...and most certainly in a position where our options are limited to say the least. McBurnie has behaved like a helmet, as someone pointed out and described, in the past...but come on, do we hold these things against people forever? His commitment to playing for Scotland is excellent, unlike some, who have been welcomed with open arms...his personal misdemeanours are another thing, but these seem to now be a thing of the past. The bottom line is that, we have no strikers that are really any good...Dykes and Adams blow hot and cold at both Club and international level, but I think it's fair to say, that they've both been much luckier than McBurnie with the Scotland teams and players that they've played with. After those two, we are scraping a very deep barrel, Shankland, Nisbet, Stewart and Hardie will likely never play in a top European league, though Stewart has the best chance currently. I think it's time to cut the big fella a bit of slack to be honest.

Gallacher is an outlier to be fair...his stats are unbelievable, more goals than caps. His story is one that every scotland fan should be educated on for sporting and reasons of humanity

How so? McGeady and McCarthy had an equally tenuous link to Ireland but chose them over playing for Scotland. How do we know that the Scottish grandparent hasn't instilled a Scottishness into the lads parent? How do we know that the grandparent hasn't had so much of an impact on the lad that he wants to represent that grandparent on the international scene?

A few guys further up stating their surprise at Ferguson being linked with top teams...I'd never have picked him out as an Accies or an Aberdeen player as someone who would do well in Serie A. But as a 'well fan, I'm happy enough to admit that I'd never have picked Lambert to win a move to Borussia Dortmund and a European Cup medal.

Clarke is doing a great job, but were he to be poached away I'd be confident that a) we are now a much more interesting proposition for any mangers out there b) our squad seems to be full of captains, characters, extremely confident and very talented players, which can't be underestimated c) we appear to have another batch of players also pushing through at their back. Someone said earlier on that this could be the start of a golden generation...it certainly looks that way to me
