  1. Yeah. Never hurts to plan ahead. Hopefully Gilmour starts in the next two matches. There's no reason why not, we all know that he's going to be our main man going forward.
  2. Kieran Tierney issues Scotland fitness update as Arsenal defender opens up on UEFA Euro 2020 opener heartbreak Rated 50/50.
  3. 29 games unbeaten 965 minutes without conceding a goal. They were my favourites when I saw them dismantle Czech republic in a pre tournament friendly. They still are.
  4. He was solid all the way up to the Czech match. You can tell a lot about players by how they react to big occasions. It wasn't good by O'Donnell. To be honest, I would be comfortable with anyone at RWB as long as it's not O'Donnell... Armstrong, too.
  5. I would give Adams the nod, only because he's had a good EPL season.
  6. I like him. His finish against the Netherlands was a really good one. He did well on his cameo against the Czechs. He's a good addition to the squad. In terms of a striker, long term, we need someone to really step up next season.
  7. Marshall Hanley Cooper Tierney Fraser Robertson Gilmour McTominay McGinn Dykes Adams Screw the double-pivot. Put Gilmour in the anchor role, let him pull the strings and we have a chance. Plus two out and out strikers.
  8. Of all the 26 players, he's the biggest unknown quantity. And the one with least experience. Plus, 6 starts in a whole season. It's a no from me. If he has any intention of being Scotland Scotland wingback, he'll move away from Rangers... or he can go down the Lee Wallace route.
  9. Yep. Let's be honest, if we were offered that type of performance, the structure we have, plus a place at Euro 2020, two years ago, we would've taken it. We've got a good foundation. We now have a system that we're comfortable with. If we can add Gilmour, a right back and a goalscorer into the mix, it would make the world of a difference.
  10. I've always stuck up for him. I think he's an honest, hard working player, but he did look scared. If he's like that against the Czechs, imagine what he'll be like against England. It would be best to take him out of the limelight, for his own benefit. Hendry or Fraser at right wing back... maybe.
  11. No. You're absolutely right. I was just pointing out that Clarke shouldn't be asking such a loaded question. But you're right. I truly believe that if we go into the next games with the same mentality and performance, we can get something.
  12. Kieran Tierney set to miss Scotland training again ahead of Euro 2020 encounter with England due to calf injury Tell me what he did wrong? Steve Clarke backs Stephen O'Donnell amid growing calls for Nathan Patterson to start Well, Steve, one thing he did wrong was let John McGinn get doubled by Czech players, and not see the danger, leading up to the first goal.
  13. Having watched the Czech match again (Either I'm a masochistic or I don't have a life... well... I'm definitely not a masochistic...) there's reasons to believe that we can still make it through. Marshall made a few good saves. Yes, he made a howler by thinking he was Neuer and trying the "sweeper keeper" schtick, but that shouldn't overshadow the saves the saves that he made. The three centerbacks were solid. Especially Grant Hanley... was he always this fast? Robertson was amazing. He lead by example. From the first few minutes when O'Donnell let the ball trickle through his legs, it was obvious that he was nervous. He allowed the cross to come in for the first goal. McTominay wasn't as bad as I first thought. Fine, he rarely came short to receive the ball, but he never does. It's just not what he does. On the ball he was efficient. He made a couple of crunching tackles. He could've easily have won a penalty when he was fouled in the box. McGinn tried to influence the game as much as he could. Even when he has a bad match, he's always a warrior. The three in midfield started in a "V" shade with McGinn and Armstrong the more advanced players and with McTominay at the pivot. The dynamic was all wrong. Armstrong should be nowhere near the midfield. He cannot be trusted in the engine room He would be a decent number 10, as he has one string to his bow, and that's driving forward, usually recklessly. McTominay is a fine player, but he, too, prefers to bomb forward, same with McGinn. We needed a conservative presence in midfield. Apart from one dodgy incident, McGregor did well. We've seen with Kante, Kimmich, Casemiron, Busquets, etc, how important an anchorman is to a team. The only one that we had (Ryan Jack) is sadly out. Dykes had probably his worst performance. But the good thing Is that, not playing well, he still worked hard and was on the end of a few chances. Adams came on and injected a lot of pace and energy into the side. He'll be a good acquisition. I'm not sure why people are saying Christie was poor. He set up a golden chance for Robertson and he might have scored himself if he didn't get tackled by O'Donnell. We played some nice stuff, we created at least half a dozen good chances. We kept our shape. In another day we would've won that match. The dynamic of the midfield was all wrong. We were lopsided, as O'Donnell offered us zero in the way of anything. Ultimately, the difference was a ÂŁ40m striker. Bring in Gilmour, take out O'Donnell and If we play the same against England and Croatia as we did on Monday, we can get enough points to get out of the group.
  14. It wasn't even subtle, either. Genuinely felt like we were playing against 12 men. If It was against a top nation you would understand it (favouring the big nation) but no, it was against the Czech Republic!
  15. I'm still surprised by he didn't start the Luxembourg match. Hopefully he goes out on loan for the whole of next season. I don't think it matters which country he goes to, he'd stroll any league.
  16. Who cares what Rio Ferdinand has to say. He's an awful pundit. All he does is swagger in, state the obvious, crack a few jokes, say something "hip" and that's pretty much it. He thinks he's the English version of Snoop Dog. He was the pundit that coined "Ole's at the wheel". Sums it up. The BBC have the worst selection of pundits. ITV have Vieira, G.Neville, Roy Keane, Graeme Souness. BBC have Shearer, Jenas, Rio Ferdinand.
  17. Am I the only one that thought the ref never gave us anything? There was a moment in the second half, McGinn took the ball in a Cruyff turn, he was then bundled down by a Czech player. Nothing given. It had shades of the Italy incident with Hutton.
  18. Yeah, I gotcha. I honestly cannot wait for him to be thrown in at the deep end. Of all the youngsters (Turnbull, Patterson and Gilmour) Gilmour is the only one I feel is ready.
  19. Yesterday wasn't the best time to poke the bear. I'm still seething. Plenty of people said that Armstrong was crap (9 people, at last count). I don't see why I should be singled out. Stuart Armstrong is the most careless and reckless midfielder that we've had over the years. Am I saying that because of what he did against England? No. I'm saying it because he was awful yesterday. People might have a go at McGregor, but at least he can regularly retain the ball. I'm not defending myself over criticising a Stuart Armstrong performance anymore. You see people having a go at Marshall, Hanley, Hendry, O'Donnell, Fraser, Forrest, McGregor, Fleck, McBurnie, Dykes, Adams, etc. I'm not going to tolerate being the only one who gets consistently being pulled up over my criticism of Stuart Armstrong. I also had a go at Marshall, O'Donnell, McTominay and Dykes yesterday. If you think I'm just having a go at Armstrong, you're wrong. Anyway. It's the last I'm talking about it.
  20. It's a good point. In terms or press-resistance (dealing with playing pressing him) he's miles ahead of players like Fleck, Armstrong or McGregor and even McTominay. And that's not even mentioning his passing ability and technical ability. I think he's good enough and mature enough to deal with the whole country piling pressure on him. When you have Roy Keane saying that he looks like a world class player, it says a lot.
  21. We all agree that Billy Gilmour has to start. He's head and shoulders above every midfielder we have.
  22. Totally. We all saw in the England match how important an aggressive, pressing midfield helps, (McLean, especially, Jack) with Kalvin Philips. As much as I love McTominay, he isn't as aggressive and proactive as he could be. What was he before his growth spurt? 5' 6"? He plays like he's 5' 5". He has to get it into his head that he's 6'4" and built like an absolute tank. He's too timid and nice. Could Gilmour play in the pivot? God yes. The way that he offers for the ball, no matter how players are around him, is brilliant.
  23. We all knew that a certain demographic(s) were rooting for the Czechs, and will be rooting for England and Croatia. It's not new. I'm of a vintage that remembers Ian Ferguson saying to a Scotland team mate "Don't applause those dickheads" (not verbatum) So theres a history of Scots not supporting our fans or/and our team. As for social media, it gives opinion to the people whose opinion isn't worth consideration. One of the reasons I'm not on it. The positives? They're jealous. We're there. We're rubbing shoulders with the glitterati of football and they want to spoil it for us. The people of the TAMB might bicker and argue like cat and dog, but it's times like this, when our backs are to the wall, that they must be as one... and support each other as well as Steve Clarke and the Scotland squad and everyone involved with them
