  1. Eh, you missed Erin Cuthbert mate.
  2. It wasn't about judo. It was about Scottish football players, and she's scored more goals than any other Scotland player at any level, and it's the top level she's capable of competing at. I have zero issues with it. But it's ok for us to disagree on that.
  3. You might be right. But I wonder what would happen if it was on BBC every week. I know I wouldn't be nearly as interested in the EPL if it wasn't for Match of the Day being every present in my formative years. I used to love Italian football because of that highlights show on Channel 4 when I was a kid. I dont think I'm in any way predisposed to liking Italian football more than German football?
  4. Maybe. And perhaps in 2060 people will look back in the records and say "Fuck me, that Fleeting was a player! 116 goals at top level in a Scotland shirt. How sad that she lived in an era where she was not fully recognised her efforts."?
  5. indeed, but my point is that I think the percentage of people caring has increased under recent promotional efforts, such as the World Cup on BBC etc. Promotion leads to recognition.
  6. Not at all. It would be ignorant to think that it's incapable of becoming not a bit pish.
  7. Well, ice hockey gets a lot more promotion in Canada than football does. I'm pretty sure Canadians know male football exists. So what's going on there? I think you might be surprised by some of the attitudes and levels of ignorance that prevail in 2020.
  8. Haven't you heard buddy? We're living in a post-truth era.
  9. hahaha now that's a bigger point of contention.
  10. What I'm trying to say is if they get more exposure and recognition they will get larger crowds.
  11. It might not be. But it certainly has us talking about them hahaha. More so than a thread about top female players I would suggest.
  12. There almost certainly are. I'm not sure the argument of if they had more supporters they would get the recognition makes sense. I think that should be the other way around right?
  13. Firstly, that's very impressive. Well done! Secondly, no. You don't strike me as someone who would benefit greatly from affirmative action.
  14. They totally could. Would you have read it? I probably wouldn't have.
  15. Maybe it's not about you, or even me? Maybe there's a wee boy or girl who sees the list and asks their dad who Julie Fleeting is? I think it's a nice thing. But I also understand why you guys don't.
  16. Probably not, but those guys do actually have the opportunity to prove themselves in the NBA if they are good enough. Anyway, that's not the point. We all agree that technically none of those women are as good as the top 50 guys. My point is I don't care that they were included in the list. In fact, I like it. I think it's great to recognise their efforts for our country in a high profile way like this, because they are very unlikely to ever get regonised for it by most guys.
  17. I totally understand the argument, but I have absolutely zero concerns with women being included in a list like this to give the women's game more exposure. I get why many guys don't like it or agree with it. But if you think the women's game will naturally get more exposure without dedicated efforts like this, you may have to reassess.
  18. I guess two lists may have been the way to go? But then you're back at square one with none of the guys paying any attention to the achievements of the girls. I understand the argument, I do. There are more than 50 guys who are/were technically better at football than any of the women who have represented Scotland. But you have to at least consider it within context. Would you guys choose Serena Williams in a list of top 50 tennis players of all time? I would.
  19. Fleeting has been capped more than 100 times and has scored over 100 goals in a scotland shirt. As a Scotland fan, she has my respect.
  20. Thanks. I thought the point was the EPL isn't what it's made out to be unless you're talking about the top 2-5 sides. Anyway, we're in violent agreement. They both certainly could make it in the EPL without a doubt.
  21. Absolutely, but then say you just don't quite make it to the level to make it into the Scotland squad, but another country you have ties to offers you a chance to represent them. I'm open to letting people go for that chance, but I can also understand people who think it's perhaps disingenuous.
  22. Absolutely. When I'm excited about a Scot playing in the EPL I'm talking about actually playing. If they are just gonna warm the bench I'd rather they were somewhere else getting a game.
  23. Liverpool aren't what they are made out to be if you take away their top 2-5 players. This argument has always baffled me. No thing is as good as it's made out to be if you remove the things that make it good. Do I think Everton are world beaters? No. Would I rather a Scot playing there against teams like Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Leicester, Tottenham, Arsenal etc every week or two than see them up against Scottish teams every week? 100% The better players you play with and against, the better you become. It's true in almost every sport.
  24. It's top level of football Scots currently play at. Where is the lack of logic in being interested in Scots playing there?
  25. I'm not sure I agree. I think people can feel legitimate allegiances to more than one country, especially in the modern world. Also, I think those allegiances can conceivably change after the age of 16/17 or whenever a kid signs their first contract. Added to that you have the obvious situation where they might feel like they would happily play for two countries (or more) where one is much more competitive than the other and may not come knocking. Then, despite their willingness to play for a country, and that country's desire for them, they can't play because of a box they ticked when they were 16 years old? I'm not a fan. Let people get chased by a country. Why not? Pride? Seems a bit like cutting off noses to spite faces sometimes.
