  1. I totally agree. Am certainly not getting carried away. We just have some quality players in a few positions. Proudscot is absolutely right to say that's balanced out by being pretty poor elsewhere.
  2. They absolutely are. Very different and it's not saying McTominay is the class of DeBruyne but that McTominay is very highly regarded. McTominay, McGinn, Robertson, Tierney and Christie. 5 genuinely high quality players. Fraser, Forrest and McGregor on their day as well. All feels so close and yet.....
  3. When Shearer asks who will decide the Manchester derby, DeBruyne or McTominay, surely it's time to accept he should be first on our team sheet too? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50673053
  4. Good article in The Guardian about him: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/football/2019/nov/29/oliver-burke-i-feel-like-a-proper-footballer-again-really-good-in-myself I'm not expecting him to turn into the new Bale but I think it'll click for him one day.
  5. Which means (I think) that Feyenoord have just 1 less Scot (that's not retired) in their match day squad than Rangers
  6. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.footballinsider247.com/ibrox-exclusive-liverpool-set-sights-on-two-rangers-rising-stars/amp/ This article suggests that Liverpool are after King and Nathan Patterson. Has anyone seen much of Patterson? Googling indicates that he's expected to make the first team soon. As a Right Back!
  7. I think I'd go for McTominay alongside Jack. Forrest and Christie wide (with Fraser competing with Forrest for a place) and McGinn supporting the striker. To think, we can have McGregor, Arstrong, Fleck and McLean on the bench is extremely positive.
  8. The other week I got to see Liverpool at Villa park and the thing that struck me most was that Robbo and Alexander-Arnold didn't warm up with the Centre Backs, they warmed up with the strikers! Robbo on one side Trent A-A on the other and Mane, Salah and Firminho in the middle. It wasn't just crossing, it included shooting. The key to utilising Robertson for Scotland is to allow him to do that against weaker opposition like Taylor and Palmer did on Tuesday and then more restrained in others. But until we have world class centre backs he's going to have to do a lot more of the latter The question is then whether he's the best man for those occasions.
  9. Just wondered if you're standing by this?
  10. Palmer's done OK. Happy with him as our RB for the present.
  11. What is the rule about uncontestable bounce up?
  12. Not sure I completely agree with all the pessimism tonight. They've had very few chances and, despite the fact McKenna backed off, scored a beauty. We've had the vast majority of the possession and clear chances for Jack, Naismith, Forrest and McGinn. Ok, Kazakhstan are a team we should beat and we should be creating more but I don't buy the complete gloom
  13. After each goal you can see him talking to players. It's the same at Hearts. Always focusing on supporting the other players, especially the young ones like Hickey.
  14. Best player on the pitch. McGinn's been good too. Jack not providing much protection to the back 4
  15. Absolutely support that. He brings much more to a team than just his ability, just look at Hearts over the past year. With all his injuries it's a credit to him.
  16. I wish I'd come across him earlier. Love his stuff but all his gigs are sold out. Is this song available anywhere?
  17. You're absolutely correct. Hornby is a good prospect but is hardly setting the world alight. I know we need to bring more youth in but I think it's damaging and counter productive if they're not ready.
  18. Just back from Villa Park. Thought McGinn was excellent although the whole Villla team were good. He was very 'John McGinn'. Robertson didn't have much influence as much of the attacks (for both sides) were coming down the other flank and Mane didn't use him as much as he should. Still he never gave up and it was fantastic to see him score.
  19. You never know. There were some on here that said Tierney would never go for £25 million.
  20. Only 3 Scots starting for Celtic today. It's not an anti-Celtic thing, it's just that they've been a beacon of hope for the past few years which is why I'm disappointed
  21. The Guardian's '10 things to look out for in the EPL this weekend' includes one on whether Gilmour will be the next youngster to break through at Chelsea https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/oct/25/premier-league-10-things-to-look-out-for-this-weekend Also nice to note a couple of comments below the line from Chelsea fans about him, 'a baby Fabregas'?
  22. Don't think it's unfair, just a fact isn't it? It may be temporary but my point is that Celtic have offered some positivity in the last few years by basing their team on Scots. I know it's not their duty, same for all the rest, but it's the responsibility of the game to address this. You may point to the fact that Johnston's injured, Henderson's on loan and they've sold Tierney which is fair but their replacements aren't Scots (Taylor's not involved). I don't expect an all Scottish team but I'd be hoping for more youth players coming through. Rangers may win the league this season and do it with just 1 or 2 regularly in their starting line-up. Just don't think that's great for the national team which is why we are here isn't it?
  23. The number of Scots starting at Celtic is dropping as well. It's a worry as the fact they were winning the championship with a majority of Scots was a rare positive. Are there any stats on how many Scots are starting at each club?
