" I think this is based on a flawed assumption from the start, in that you are assuming that the key reason for a Sky Sports subscribers in Scotland is to watch Scottish Football. TV Viewing figures SPFL TV Review 16/17 seems to suggest for BT at least that its closer to 2.5% of subscribers watched the SPFL. It seems to average about 150k viewers across all the games. I understand the average for EPL games is around the 1M mark across all the time slots. Big Games get close to 2M. Anecdotally - I can tell you more people would go to my local to watch Chelsea, Spurs, Man City, Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool or Everton against Burnley or Bournemouth etc.. that would watch any game in the SPL outside the OF games. Rightly or wrongly I think you may find that the EPL is indirectly subsidising the Scottish League already. ... As already mentioned this is sport in a free market, its not meant to be fair and never will be.

Just seems to be another recent example of disenfranchised people getting behind the next political / social cause that comes along as a vent for all sorts of frustration very loosely (or not at all) linked to the main message. ......and partially that perennial british youth fixation to adopt the next big thing that comes out of America. Todays protests seem to follow a decently organised and determined MO. Previous gatherings behind the banner in London seemed to attract a larger element just there as they were bored and fancied a stick to beat the authorities (read Police) with and have a bit of a rumble. I assume the people that are saying his comment that he would never push the button as unhelpful are coming from the point of view that Trident is only there as a deterent. The simple fact it is there is supposed to stop any potential all out attack against us and no-one ever would wish to use it and I guess following that logic maybe even Corbyn would have to re-consider his position if we did ever get to a War Game type scenario while he was PM. So assuming he ever got to be PM, its goes against the whole pretence of Trident being a deterent if he admits he would never push the button. Having lived in Dumbarton where maybe 30-40% of the jobs are at the base, my experience would back up the statement thats its only there as a deterent and never intended for use. Knowing the people that work there and hearing what goes on I'm pretty certian that when that button is pushed, the lights would flicker for a few seconds in Faslane then nothing would happen. From the outside its does seem to just be a job creation scheme to keep people off the streets.

in response to the above, Yes i guess it would if any of the companies take the huge investment to actually convert any of the finds to actual barrels of oil, will check later on the number of new fields open in the North Sea for comparison against these OIl finds the media likes to report each week. Problem is, in genral an "Oil find" means nothing - theres a massive disconnect (in time and propability) of turning an Oil Find into an Oil Fund, especially in the North Sea. We could have an Oil find like this everyday for another ten years and it still wouldnt make it profitable for anyone to actually build the infrastructure to extract it and create any tax revenue for us. At current Brent Oil prices, if we could get all the provable oil out the North Sea and then decommision all the assets to the required standard we would still be faced with a massive loss of billions. Problem is the more oil finds we have (even if they arent turned into extracted oil) helps to keep the price below the magic $100 a barrell (or whatever is s these days) the industry needs to actuallymake a profit on the stuff. Hence a Oil Find means very little

this - and some must genuinely feel they we actually benefit from being in the UK. Its been pointed out to me by various foriegn people that Glasgow and Edinburgh benefit massively from 10s of thousands of Financial Services jobs that just wouldnt be here if we diditn have that link with London - in terms of shared regulation, currency etc. We have a special position in these markets as we have that link and the neccessary professional education but also benefit from the costs savings of not actually being based in expensive London or having to live beside annoying Eastenders types. These people were here trying to copy how we attract so many Financial Services jobs from all round the world and one of the key thing they identified was the above, which they cant hope to copy. I've said from day one the vote was completely the wrong way round - not enough detail and certainties set out by the the YES party. If we are going to do it - do it right. Negoitiate first with the EU or prove we can go it ourselves if they refuse. We were never going to be truly independent without a Central Bank - Be Brave and have our own currency. Chance is gone for another generation as there was too much tyring to have our cake and eat it. Too much emotional launguage in the YES campaign and asking pragmatic Scots for a leap of faith but not enough details. If there is a next time our standard reply cant be a dismissive "Oh thats just scaremongering" - as these voters were obviosuly genuinely scared.

I'm really not trying to be so sceptical of a YES vote - this just happens to be an area i've done financial analysis on for these companies. The additional costs i;ve detailed above are undeniable. they may be cancel out Corp Tax or may not even be passed on to the consumers. Its the paranoia and the talk of boycotts that bothers me. But its not their intentions...its a direct impact of a public vote that will impact their bottom line. Until now its looked liked it would be a no and they wouldnt have to take the political risk of showing their hand. Most businesses when asked have rolled out the line that its a matter for the people of Scotland...blah blah blah. All the while they knew from their costs analysis that if it was a YES they would be hit in the pocket. And from the ones we've spoken to they hope they can get away with passing that cost on to the end customer, but as with everything the dont want to be the one saying that and they'll wait and see how the rest of the market reacts. You are right they should be ashamed, but only because they are greedy corporate entities - not because the timing of the announcements doesnt suit the your or the wider YES agenda.

as i say the polls have forced their hand, till now they been able to keep schtum and not get involved as it was going there way. Now its in their interest to speak up. Its not some tory consiparcy its common sense - from there point.

I'm not and i said that in my iniital email, you cant even assume which way i intend to vote...I'm just saying everyone on here is denying there are added costs which there will be its inevitable and shouldnt be denied. so to jump up and boycott etc is just not living in the real world -just like all the politicans involved, the impacted businesses are only self intersted. given we have no detail to go on, they will allways play the odds and stick with what they know as a certainty. If they were promsied lower Corp Tax, lower rates etc they would be back in flash and the extra costs are worth it

we arent talking countries we are talking any Business. its really simple. At the moment RBS produce one set of financial Accounts. post YES vote they now have to produce 2 thats additional work for teams of people, therefore additional costs. and yes they already do that the world over, its the price of trading globally and they more than recover the costs. BUT the point here is they have a choice to influence whether there Admin costs go up or not. they have a duty to protect profits. The timing isnt suspect, its self interest. All these companies have done their costs analysis well in advance. They knew the results but hoped they wouldnt have to admit them. now that the polls are close - they have to come out and protect their bottom line, even if it means their will be an element of inevitable backlash from the loonies who are intolerant of others who hold a differing opinion to themselves

As i sad no one can say, there is so much undecided. as i mentioned if a Scottish Govt set an aggresively low Corp. Tax that would more than offset the additional costs. But that brings lower tax revenue and runs the risk of the irish model, where they only managed to attract the "shell Co's" (Amazon, Google etc) and no actual jobs or real benefit.

I plainy said in my message - that i wasnt saying these costs would be passed on to the consumer. No one can predict that. I can imagine some shady companies using it as an excuse to in the future. But its an undeniable fact that operating in a country has lost of associated costs, split that country in 2 and the costs increase. Simply put in my job if its a YES I would have to produce 2 sets of financial statements to comply with 2 differing sets of financial rules for whats essentially the same business as before. While that may not double my work it will definetly increas the hours i do or they recuit someone else to do it- either way there is an additional cost attached. repeat that exercise for HSSE regs,and everyother type of red tape business deals with and the costs add up. And I'm not saying they wont deal with it if it happens, I'm just saying they are actualy being honest as saying, Yes costs will increase.

The only black and white the corporate studies show at the moment is their will be additional Aministrative costs dealing with 2 sets of red tape, 2 sets of financial rules & regs, 2 sets of tax compliance, 2 sets of HSSE compliance, 2 Payrolls etc - whereas for now they only have one. Thats the main additional costs to the Blue chips (that is known) The reason they are unable to costs anything else is because the rest is one big complete unknown - no one can say if they deal with 2 currencies, whether we will be in out out of scope for EU regulations and compliance, no one knowns what the Corp Tax will be, what the Income tax or Business rates will be.....its big blank page and thats not the fault of Business. the politicians are unable to provide black and white and you are putting your trust in them....and we all know they all been proved to be two faced lying pr-cks, to coin a phrase.. Again i re-iterate none of this is an arguement against YES, its just some YES voters need to get a bit of perspective and live in the real world. An independant scotland will still have corrupt self centred politicians, greedy corporations and a whole host of other issues.

Are you all so deluded you think these big companies give a Sh*t about politics - all they care about is profit and squeezing every penny out of their business model and customers. (Not that i support anyone using the old boys network to get honours) They've all been too scared to say it and were hoping they wouldnt have to but with the polls being so close now they have no choice. Independence will hit these companies bottom lines that is a fact. How much it will impact, no-one can say and will largely depend on the Corporation Tax set in a independant Scotland and on businnss rates for the supermarkets etc. I've seen some of their costs studies. The simple fact of dealing with 2 governments in differing regulatory environments, different tax regimes etc has an additional costs for the multi nationals thats more significant than you think. Moving a Brass plaque, while has no direct job implications, is one of the biggest financial decions an organisation can make.(just ask Luxembourg, Switzerland, Ireland etc) Yes all Global companies already operate accross many borders and absorb that cost, but the point being missed is in this instance they have a choice or say in whether they do it this time. They would simpy be being negligent in their duty of care to their shareholders if they didnt admit there will be higher costs (and yes no one can say these will be passed on the the end scottish consumer yet) - but they are a fact. none of this is intented as an arguement against voting YES, its just a resposne to the small minded childishness of boycotting ASDA etc. Do you not think these companies have not done the analysis and comparison ? You really think they are putting there name to these letters becuase one of the board happens to know Cameron?
