  1. Jack, McGinn and Gilmour. Jack is important he plugs the gaps, especially if McTominay is stepping into midfield and Tierney is stepping into pretty much wherever he wants! We need Jack he is the best defensive midfielder we have. Then we need creativity, McGregor just doesn't do it for me, Gilmour already looks a cut above him from what I have seen. McGinns goals speak for themselves
  2. Progress would be implementing that style last night against better sides or sides around us. The most frustrating thing about watching that last night was seeing how high we played up the park and wondering what if v Israel. Why don't we go for it like that against better sides, I get the argument better sides may hurt us, but we may hurt them as well. That left hand side for Scotland is potentially great against anyone. If we get Ryan Jack back to plug the gaps, get Gilmour in to add some creativity we have a team
  3. Your hate of Adams is embarrassing. TA Troll
  4. I'm not too sure on that. In all the games we have played so far we are sorely lacking in creativity in both areas of Midfield. Gilmour as a deep lying playmaker but we also lack someone playing on the half turn in the number 10 position. McGinn isn't really a creator, especially in games such as tonight we need someone who can split defences, Turnbull would have or Gauld would have shined tonight
  5. The thing is, we don't need a Defender to break the lines with passes if a Midfielder is capable of it, and we literally have no Midfielder in there who loves to get on the ball and dictate play apart from, step forward Billy Gilmour. He would completely change the way we play. McTomimay and McGinn are good Midfielders but they aren't like a Pirlo or Xavi, I'm not saying Gilmour is as good as them but he is that type, who will dictate the play or are even particularly comfortable in possession in tight areas, they both get away with it at times due to McTominays strength and physique and McGinns big fat arse gets him out of tight spots but none of them like receiving the ball deep on the half turn and opening up the play creating passing angles, neither of them are even as capable of making those passes as Gilmour. I've seen enough of the kid already to know he could be a vital part of this team, he should be the main man in there, protected by McGinn and McTominay either side of him who should alternate box to box. Sometimes I would only play two Gilmour and one other depending who we play. Tonight is a prime example of when he should have been given a chance to show what he can offer
  6. So do I, and look we might come up short, Denmark might just be a little better than us, but we should not be scared of them, and we certainly should not be scared of Austria over there. Looking back at Denmark's previous games they have had some good results but also some where it's been tight, I look at the second game they had v Iceland, Iceland first game played 4411 and got cuffed 3 nil, they went back to their 352 flat in Midfield. Denmark scraped a win in the last minute with a penalty, for me that's the blue print, they struggle more against that formation than any other, and we are better than Iceland now btw and have players that can hurt Denmark. Austria we should know how to beat them now, it is probably right between us and them but we are more than capable of beating them, with a bit of believe and attacking intent we can
  7. How good are Denmark by the way? It seems like everyone has them down as superstars. They are nowhere near the quality of a Spain or France. They aren't a Belgium who suddenly have a brilliant crop of players playing at some of the best clubs in Europe. Why can't we beat this team and why can't we finish second. Ok we have had a poor first half performance but we still got something out the game. Other teams in this group will have bad games as well. Just of the top of my head, Schmeichel in goals, Ajaer from Celtic, Christian Eriksen, and some boy from Barcelona who only signed as an emergency loan when Barca had no other option. They are beatable
  8. I'm kind of with you but then where does Tierney and Roberson play again? And I'm not sure we have good enough wide players to play a 451. Fraser is decent but we don't have much on the right. Maybe Armstrong or put Tierney Left Wing and Fraser Right Wing but Fraser isn't as effective there
  9. Having Gilmour in the team would allow our Wing Backs to push into Midfield more often. He can be trusted to take the ball from the Defence, give the Wing Backs time to push forward and create passing angles for him. Also if McGinn and McTominay were beside him he would have plenty support in there. But as we progress as a team I would like to see how Gauld or Turnbull would fit in place of McGinn. I love McGinns energy but to move to another level we need players who can keep the ball
  10. Bang on, last night was crying out for someone to impose themselves on the game in Midfield. Not one of our Midfielders will take the ball and dictate the tempo of a game. They all have good and differing qualities but none of them can do what Gilmour does
  11. If we play the box in midfield like we did last night it basically leaves two midfielders against 5 in this case v Israel because they pushed our wingbacks so far back. We should play with a flat 3. Gilmour at the base dictating play and McGinn and McTominay box to box. That gives us 3 in there at all times with licence to support the strikers. I personally hate 3-4-3 with the box shape, our players just don't even know how to play it, the movements are all wrong players running into the same spaces we create no passing gaps and the two attacking mids leave our Midfield two isolated
  12. Correct he got his tactics wrong first half simple as that. I had a feeling we should switch back to 4231 and press them for this game, they don't like being pressed and they hate pace. We were also piss poor last time we played them using 3 at the back. At the very least with 3 at the back we should have went man for man in midfield instead we used that pishy box in midfield and our wingbacks got pushed right back so we ended up with 5 against McGregor and McTominay. We need Gilmour in this team as well btw we have no one in Midfield who demands the ball
  13. It's still in our own hands
  14. When we brought off McGinn and replaced him with McLean that was telling. That was exactly the moment we needed Gauld or Turnbull
  15. I would be very tempted to go with the 4-2-3-1 this game, every game Israel have lost recently has been against sides that play that system. They don't like being pressed or runners in behind. We have the players that can do this, but it's a hard one as the 3 at the back has worked so well for us recently
  16. Did you see Denmark's first goal against them? It was almost identical to one we scored at Hampden a while back against them, striker pulls their centre half out of position wins the header flicks it on runner from deep gets on it beats his man for pace and scores.
  17. Why the hell are we playing away friendlies when two of our euros games are at home! Get the boys in the zone at Hampden
  18. Let's get at them, Dykes dropping deep with Adams and Fraser running in behind them, they hate pace.
  19. I know we've had our wee run in on here before but I agree the top teams need more encouragement in playing young Scottish players. Although I like the idea of the B teams I can see the benefits, it also may prove pointless if the young players still don't get a chance with the first teams at their clubs. Can a rule change be implemented by the governing bodies to make clubs play a certain quota of homegrown players or at least have them in their squads? Or would that come down to a vote as well? Maybe it should be put to the old firm that they can have their b teams if.... They also agree to a change in rules on a quota of homegrown players in their match day squads, and I don't mean a token 3 on the bench, I mean 50 percent of the team
  20. I see that Amad Diallo has been called up for Ivory Coast after only a handful of senior games, why are we so slow with Gilmour
  21. Gilmour is a more obvious choice than Turnbull since Turnbull plays primarily as an Attacking Midfielder. Perfect chance for Gilmour to get called in even as cover for the two sitting Midfielders, I mean if he's a good enough back up for Chelsea he's definitely good enough back up for Scotland
  22. Gilmour and Gauld should both be ahead of Turnbull
  23. Well this reply just strikes me that you have no idea what you would do to develop young players in this country so you are right it isn't going anywhere
  24. When people start to get angry in a debate they tend to be losing... So who would you put in charge of developing elite players? Bearing in mind football players actually have to play for a football club....
  25. Agreed, I think Aberdeen have shown an interest in entering a Colt as well. Suppose it comes down to finance
