Seaeching Google suggests it normally takes no more than 2 hours. Not complaining but why so long?

I've just re-read their email. It's saying that charter time is 4 hours not necessarily transfer time. You may well be right about it being 2 hours. I'll ask them to confirm.

    Flure and Lady Flure.

And, on behalf of the Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal, can I thank you for thinking about us.

No problem sir, a worthy cause that Scotland's fans can be proud of.

I should of course have started the ball rolling with my own group.

    Slasher x4 - in!

  3. Those of you who have been following this on the other thread will be aware that I have been trying to charter a boat for our onward journey from Vienna to Bratislava ahead of our qualifier against Slovakia. I am now in a position to offer the following.

    Itinerary.

Although departure time is not yet set in stone it is anticipated we will leave Vienna around 12 noon on Monday 10th October. Our cruise along the Danube will last approximately 4 hours giving us an ETA of around 4pm local time in Bratislava. Passengers should be at the landing stage Wien 45 minutes before departure.

    Boat Facilities

The capacity for this trip is 45 persons. The boat itself comprises of a heated indoor lounge with WiFi and iPod dock to get the tunes blasting. There is also an onboard bar selling beers, spirits and wines from the Moselle region. There is also potential for catering although I haven't asked for that as yet. The outer/viewing deck has a capacity of 24 at any given time if the weather is fair. There is a landing charge payable to port authorities in Slovakia which will be collected by boat crew during the cruise of €5.50 per person.

    Price/Payment

The exchange rate is a bit flaky at the moment but I am confident in offering the trip at £37.50 per person payable as soon as possible. Around 38 people expressed an in interest in this trip on the other thread. This is not a guarantee of a place. To ensure your place post on this thread and I will pm you payment details. If the exchange rate goes south I may have to ask you for no more than extra £5 or so. Alternatively if the rate is kind I will refund you or if the sums are negligible donate the excess to the TA Sunshine Appeal. The sooner I get the money in, the sooner I can pay the deposit the charter firm are looking for to secure this venture.

I would ask that those coming bring as many flags, banners, saltires etc as possible so we can deck the boat out from top to bottom. I'm aware that there are other quicker, cheaper ways into Bratislava from Vienna but this is a fantastic opportunity to arrive in one Europe's capital cities in style and make new friends along the way. Hopefully enough of you will support this venture to make it happen.

    Regards, Captain Slasher ?

  4. Just a wee update on the boat. Since confirming football fans were involved the charter company have gone cold on me. First, they asked for a hefty security deposit, which I was willing to cover and now they have taken to not answering my emails.

I've asked them some fairly detailed questions so they may be just taking their time to get all the info together but that's been a week now. If I haven't heard back from them by the time I go on holiday next week we might need to abandon ship ?

Hope has worked wonders for us the past 18 years right enough ?

I can just see WGS at the next squad get together "right lads we had high hopes for this campaign but that's aw oot the Windae now, weloveirnbru posted on the tam board that we're Donald ducked, the games up the pole"

That's what I love about this board....all the smart arses and all the positivity ?

I wish that I had some hope for the next campaign...I don't...

We have a rubbish defence...Fletcher is too isolated up front on his own...one runner from midfield..anya...players that continue to be picked when they should be put to grass and a negative setup that does not seem to suit our players..apart from that we are ace...

I cannot see us getting near England and Slovakia unfortunately.  I also think that it will be close between us, Slovenia and even Lithuania...

COME THE MALTA GAME I WILL HAVE CHANGED MY MIND!  LOL...BRING IT ON!

Feck off with your realism. Hope is the only way forward?

Is the time stated confirmed ?

Nothing confirmed yet m8 but departure time is not an issue for them. However there may be additional costs associated with them returning to their home port of Hainburg and any down time caused by delays. Either of these could push the price up and make it cost prohibitive.

Hopefully not though as Ive got my heart set on it! I should hear back from them this week.....fingers crossed as it looks as though we'd be fine for numbers?

Three of us would be keen on a the boat.

    Ok, welcome aboard! ?

Might give this it's own thread if numbers keep going up. As I've said we need around 40 to make this cost effective. If anyone wants further details just ask.?

Slasher, which day are you talking about re the boat charter?

If it's Monday afternoon I'm up for it. Will be staying in Ohhhhh Vienna on Sunday night.

    Neily

    Aye Monday at 11:30am m8?

  10. I've just had some info back on the boat charter and reckon I'll need about 40 names to make it viable. That would keep the cost down to around €35.

At the moment we're sitting at 17 expressions of interest. Any more?

  11. 4 of us hitting the 1516 Brewing Company on the Sunday night ???

Looking into chartering a boat for the Monday but the ones we've spoken to so far are insisting on a 9:45am departure. That's a bit early for my liking but if we can get say a 12 pm slot might go for it. Would anyone be interested if we can pull it off?

  12. I'm going to try and stay positive. There's plenty of negativity on here as it is. I think we'll get off to a positive start and that'll get everyone up for it.

There hasn't been much good come of these friendlies but we've some top class goalkeepers and I've liked the look of youngsters Tierney and Mackay. Slovakia look as though they're going to be tough opponents but if we can find our best form in every game we can do it!

There's just not going to be any room for Tbilisi like performances in this group....best foot forward every game!?

I've just watched one of those questionable pishy YouTube videos of Kieran Tierney highlights of the past season and ok, hastily erected highlights but I didn't realise just how good he was this season. Loads of assists, beating players and plenty blocks and tackles. Robertson got a real fight on his hands I'd say although you could imagine him pushed further on cause he looks a real threat going forward.

Yip, he's potentially very good, loves a tackle as well?

If Shinnie is as good as people say, then why is he playing for Aberdeen rather than an English Championship side with a much higher budget?

I've seen him play before for ICT and he was the best player on the park but would he really make much difference in comparison to our other left-sided options?

No, but he's  a better player than Wallace, Forsyth and Whittaker IMO. All of whom have been picked ahead of him. As I said earlier, I think you should pick your best 22/25 players.

  15. I think familiarity breeds contempt in this job very quickly and a lot of what is at work here could be described as that.

My one issue with Strachan is his ignorance of one or two players who would offer us something different/better from what we have. It seems to be, its the best players to fit his system rather than picking your your best 22 and finding a system that suits them best. For me you should always pick your best 22 players.

The most striking examples are Rhodes and Shinnie (although I was shocked at how bad he was against Celtic - 1 off?) and before them McCormack. He's a stubborn monkey wgs right enough.....I well remember him ignoring Balde at times when we were crying out for physique despite the fact the one game he played, he was excellent and we were paying the fecker 29k a week.

But, all in all I still trust him and if we get off to a good start which I think we will....the belief will come again!?
