  1. Interesting wee article on John Lennon's Scottish connections... http://www.scotsman.com/lifestyle/heritage/lost-edinburgh-john-lennon-s-edinburgh-1-3631443
  2. His dribbling style was bizarre, the ball appeared to be attached by a string to his left foot. He could probably have played just as well with a wooden right leg!
  3. The guy was my hero when I was at school, some of his performances were incredible. Could be very moody though. John Grieg was always dropping him, I mind my dad taking me to see him play for the reserves against Hibs at Ibrox (while the first team were at Easter Road). It was when Jock Wallace returned to Ibrox that he seemed to get a boot in the erse and started producing the goods on a more consistent basis, which culminated in him becoming a Scotland regular. Hard to say how he would do in today's game. He was incredibly one footed, couldn't tackle, was hopeless in the air and never tracked back. I'm struggling to think of a modern comparison tbh. As mentioned he seemed a bit of Jekyll and Hyde character on and off the pitch. I've heard stories about him being the nicest guy, but also of him being a bit of a bigot sadly. He was from Lanarkshire mind you. I went to his funeral and stood in the crowds outside, the only time I've done that for someone I didn't know.
  4. Angus Robertson would then be leader of the opposition! Interesting concept but it would probably hasten the demise of the current established major parties....
  5. Naw, as mentioned on the other thread we should be due £50m, as should Wales and Northern Ireland...
  6. Indeed, all the home nations teams should be treated as equals in terms of central government funding.
  7. If your team is "fortunate" enough to qualify for Europe you now get summer football... The season is too long IMO, a 16 team top league playing 30 games is more than sufficient. The old "we need 4 home games against the Old Firm to survive" mantra has clearly been destroyed in recent seasons. OK clubs may lose a bit of revenue by losing a couple of home games but I think making matches less frequent and introducing more variety in the opposition would encourage more walk up customers...
  8. They do tours at the weekend too. I had a look round one Saturday morning recently...
  9. I'd like to hear Archie "saviour of the Union" McPherson's opinion on this...
  10. If recent election history is anything to go by the Labour vote is the one most likely to go to SNP so such a tactic might not be a great success if that's what is intended...
  11. That's being saved. Politics apart, with a bit of vision large scale investments can prove their worth and provide a return eg. The Hydro...
  12. Pretty significant if over 1 in 4 English people voted to leave the UK!...
  13. 100% agree, but stick some seats in a couple of them while we're at it. If a wee country like Norway can have a facility like this surely we could have at the least a more modest version:- Imagine a wild howling day like today, but several thousand fans comfortably indoors, roaring noise under the roof and enjoying a couple of beers in the process. Would be a really memorable day/night out...
  14. I heard the owner of the Braehead ice hockey team on Clyde 1 last night. They seem to be doing really well, attracting decent crowds, but it still costs over 40 quid for a family of 4. It just seems the whole experience is attracting certain people more than the football. For example he said Fife Flyers are pulling in bigger crowds than Raith Rovers!
  15. Well one of the stated aims of the place is to bring through better youngsters. Time will tell if they make they grade at City, but other clubs will certainly benefit from players who don't make it. I agree these facilities are exceptional, but all over England and Wales millions are being spent by clubs on similar, if not as extravagant, developments. Already it's paying dividends, eg. the world's most expensive player is Welsh - FFS who would have believed that!!! And look at the England game the other week, there was a real gulf in quality between the sides that i don't remember being the case back when we played them regularly.
  16. Absolutely incredible facilities. English (and Welsh) football is leaving us trailing behind sadly...
  17. Jimmy Hill was a broadcasting colossus.... ...compared with Ian Wright anyway
