  1. 3-4-2-1 Hanley Gallagher Tierney O’Don McTom McGregor Robertson Armstrong McGinn Adams
  2. Disagree. It’s all about opinions. McGregor, for me, should start. Alongside McTominay.
  3. Can't believe I'm responding, but to not rate Armstrong says a lot of your understanding of football. You get me, brother?
  4. I think people talking about dropping McGregor are mistaken. We have very good midfield options, they offer different things. Depends how we play, who opposition are if he starts. But he is very important to the team. Jack probably better defensively, McTominay better at getting up park quickly and more of a goal threat, McGinn better forward player. But McGregor is our best at ball retention and against Serbia had obviously been tol to be more dynamic and force things (see interception that led to the goal). People saying his place should go to Armstrong are just wrong. I’m an Armstrong fan but they offer different things. Place for all of them in the squad. I think for most matches McGregor would be on my team. We’d otherwise struggle to retain possession.
  5. You don't make false allegations without proof? But... if you had proof of something, to then allege something different would just be a lie, wouldn't it?
  6. I’m not the teacher, don’t you give me your excuses. Just stop doing it.
  7. For the love of all that’s holy, can we close this thread? I realise it’ll set Big Ramy even more paranoid but it’s for the greater good. FWIW I think the big (wee) man is undeserving of this. Yes, he’s a dafty but he’s getting accused of shite and the things aimed at him in jest are obviously being taken personally. I’ll be you’re hauners Ramy. Unfortunately I too am 5’9”.
  8. Yeah, the telegraph thing is interesting. Ship's captain recognised him and contacted England. They sent Inspector Dew on a faster ship to get to Canada before him. He didn't pose as a woman though. It was his mistress who went with him and posed as his son!
  9. Anyone familiar with the case and associated controversies? Basically, found guilty of killing his wife and hanged in 1910. (Lots of intrigue involved, including his would-be singer wife who had loads of affairs; he himself was having an affair). Anyway, it seems the body they "discovered" in his house was almost definitely male so likely planted by Inspector Dew (who apparently resigned the day Crippen was hanged - guilty conscience?) Also, it's suggested the wife simply ran away to America (she was American, as was he). And it's alleged Churchill (Home Secretary) had letters from her at the time of his appeal. They could well have been forgeries, obviously. Anyway, interesting story. One way of finding out if she was alive would surely to check passenger lists? I get that she would have used a fake name but, seeing as how there was no suspected murder at the time she is supposed to have done a runner, she was simply running away, she might not have done much to cover her tracks.
  10. It really is, as Diamond says, the basics of watching football. The confused faces on his posts are quite embarrassing for those who put them there. We really do have supporters who spout so many opinions but don’t actually understand the basics of football. And that’s fine, of course. But a a bit of self-awareness when voicing such opinions wouldn’t go amiss.
  11. Getting mine Saturday. Only 48 but on the shielding list. In East Ayrshire. Woo-hoo, Easter holiday for me.
  12. Please somebody funny come on and ridicule this Khunt. I’d attempt to but am tired and cant be arsed. Do they really walk among us, or is it a wind up? Phart isn’t helping matters by seriously engaging.
  13. Not patronising at all. I am, indeed, an imbecile and may have an inappropriate office chair. Will try the fitter.
  14. Right, boring topic of the new year alert, but this is the Anything Goes sub-forum so I'm sure there's no complaints. I have zero DIY prowess, know-how or competency and need help from those who do. Recently turned a room in my house into an office / sitting room type thing. It's for relaxing in and has sofabed, bookshelves etc, with my desk and office chair in one corner. I got a new carpet fitted before the bookshelves were fitted. Anyway, to cut a boring story short, it's starting to ruffle near where my desk is. I realise it's to do with my chair and the castors. I put an off-cut of the carpet under my chair in order to protect it but obviously it's not done the trick as I've now noticed this ruffling. I've ordered a proper carpet protector which I'll start to use, but my question is, how do I sort the ruffling already there? From looking online, solutions all involve removing furniture from the room before fixing it. I can't do this with my bookshelves there, all along one wall onto which they are fixed. Anyone got any solutions? It's not a major problem yet but I don't want it getting any worse. First-world problems, middle class TA etc. I understand all that, but would like this sorted. Fire away.
  15. Fair dos. I didn't pick up on that. It's not a term I would've used myself. Just been doing so in this thread as others have used it and didn't want to seem ignorant or feel left out. Ever since I was made to play at left back at the end of my amateur career (an attacking right-sided midfielder with NO left peg whatsoever) I've not really been a fan and just refer to it as doing a job on the wrong side. Didn't realise we now called it "inverted". Anyway, I don't feel that strongly about it, just don't think it should be dismissed out of hand as Tierney has an attacking threat and is, arguably, more of a threat than Robertson. I like him at LCB but feel we're missing a trick by not utilising his attacking prowess. 👍
  16. And I just don’t believe that you’ve watched football for, what, 20 years or so and never seen a successful wing back play on the “wrong” side.
  17. I don’t think he was pish. Not as effective, yeah. If he doesn’t have a right foot, I wonder just what that appendage was that swung from just eastward of his left leg the other night. Yes, I get the tendency is to cut inside 9 times out of 10. But as I said, we don’t have flying right-footed alternatives that take a man on on the outside anyway. So what are we actually losing in an attacking sense? In the system we play, I think it’s work. I’m not suggesting we play him as an orthodox right back.
  18. You’ve never heard of anyone play a Right-footed player at LWB? Or vice versa? Countless examples, some positive, some not. Wolves as an example of a positive one. Jonny was a very successful LWB prior to his injury. Since he’s been out, and Wolves have played a naturally left-footed player there they’ve really missed him. I’d say it’s worth a try. Tierney is arguably our best player. Would be more of a gamble if our natural right-footed player got up and down the line and was known to take defenders on on the outside and whip in magic deliveries. Can’t believe one of the arguments above is we’d lose that! I’m not a HUGE fan of inverted wing backs, but I think the argument is definitely a valid one that we should try Tierney there.
  19. Indeed. The very fact we call it “the John McGinn” position suggests Turnbull, at best, would be second choice for that slot.
  20. I’m kinda hoping this is a popular forum for international refs. Just putting a wee bit pressure on the man in black next June, making sure he doesn’t fall for Kane’s nonsense. I maintain that Chripper is a condescending prick. Knows nowt about football too, but it’s a free country.
  21. Hey, if you don’t like the thread... I think it’s a good point worth making; there’s a genuine worry as we have tactile defenders and Kane is one of the worst divers in English football. As is Grealish, but not sure he’ll be a starter.
