  1. I saw the Yankees play the Blue Jays once and we got two anthems for the price of one, not to mention God Bless America, Take me out to the Ball Park and YMCA
  2. They play the Star Spangled Banner before pretty much every sporting event in the USA, so I imagine that the played GSTQ to be respectful to WBA. I respect the guys opinions but this does have a smell of attention seeking to me.
  3. A starting point for Labour - in both Holyrood and Westminster - would be to be an effective opposition.
  4. Pretty sure that there was at least one TV debate for the SNP deputy leader election last year.
  5. From that statement, it ooks like there is a public sale but they're not going to announce the date/time in advance. They'll just say "they're on sale now" via their usual channels, i.e. website, Twitter and email to SSC members. Might sound a bit unfair but the last time there was a public sale for a big game was the Italy match and that was mayhem due to the unpreeeeecedented demand for tickets.
  6. Highest I can remember was around 1.48 just before the crash.
  7. I predict she'll find a cure for cancer, eliminate world hunger and broker a lasting peace deal in the Middle East.
  8. It's supposed to get them used to the place, an easy intro as no interventions or heckling are allowed.
  9. That's too simplistic and it's not true. The bit about Scotland is, but the everyone with the exception of the Tories votes went to the SNP. The Tory vote of course went down because of #SNPout tactical voting. If you look at the seats where the Lib Dems lost in England, then what you tend to see is the vote for the party that won didn't change that much from the 2010, as a random example, St. Ives, in 2010, the Tories came second with 17900, in 2015 they won with 18,500. The Lib Dem vote collapsed but but those votes went to all different parties, but I doubt that a lot of them went to UKIP. The Greens went up from 250,000 to 1.15 million, I'd guess a large amount of those would be former Lib Dems. The rest I would think would be to either the Tories or Labour depending on where you stood as a liberal. Another factor in the UKIP vote is that the BNP, who polled 560,000 votes in 2010 didn't stand in 2015 and there's only one place those votes were going.
  10. No one knows what the guys exact circumstances were. I can guarantee that the tabloids will be trying to track him down though.
  11. It's true to an extent, I've personally spoken to a few people who you would class as traditional labour voters who voted UKIP. They're main reason is that they are disillusioned with the mainstream political parties. One guy actually said to me that he wished the SNP stood in England so he could vote SNP. To which level this is an anti-politics protest vote and to which extent it represents a longer term shift I don't know. I really think Labour in the UK has a serious problem as its being attacked on different fronts from different opponents. The core vote is being attacked in Scotland from the SNP on a combination of a centre-left message and the constitution, in England, it's UKIP playing to concerns over public services being under threat by playing an anti-Europe and immigration card. That's just the core vote, the ones whose votes they used to weigh. Then you have "Middle England" which they need to put dents into to actually win an election who don't trust them on the Economy amongst other things. How do you get a leader who's going to deal with all of that?
  12. How about you indulge us and outline the bits that you didn't agree with then?
  13. Missed the bit about "the SNP are a cult-like movement" then.
  14. Ah well, Alan Cochrane agrees with you. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/alancochrane/
  15. I'm pretty sure he had to stop himself adding on ".. You'll get your hole there".

  18. Just made her maiden speech. Absolutely brilliant. Make sure you catch it.
  19. Sometimes you can't pick which ground you fight, sometimes its your opponents who choose the ground. A repeal of the Fox Hunting ban was in the Conservative manifesto. I suspect this was in there as sop to the pro-hunt lobby but also something that could be bargained away in coalition negotiations. Immediately after the election, there was some speculation around whether or not they would introduce a bill to repeal in this session and whether or not the SNP would vote against it. The SNP were non-committal on whether the would vote or not and there was no mention in the Queen's Speech. Since the original EVEL plans fell to pieces last week, the Tories rushed this bill forward in an attempt to flush out the SNP. The proposed vote was not a complete repeal of the ban - although the impact would be to effectively repeal it - but to bring that in line with the law in Scotland. The thinking was obviously that the SNP couldn't vote against the legislation on the basis that its English Only and also that they would be voting against the current position in Scotland. If the SNP were to vote, then - in to Tory eyes - that would strengthen the case for EVEL, however that fails a bit as a lot of people in England will think that the SNP have done exactly the right thing as Fox Hunting is more of a moral issue. Had they picked something less emotive that may have worked. I doubt this is the end result the government expected here. I suspect they've pulled the vote because while SNP support would have ensured that the vote would fail, it would probably be by a majority greater than 56 and so would nullify any EVEL argument.
  20. I guess that's 1-0 to the SNP. Tories have called off the vote for tomorrow.
