  1. That sounds a lot more realistic in terms of his wages and some amount of money for a 16 year old regardless. As a comparison, Solanke who signed for Liverpool last year at 19 was supposedly demanding £50k a week to sign a new contract at Chelsea and that figure was apparantly some way wide of the mark.
  2. He also used to have a lot of post season operations to clean things up. Outwith the injuries he picked up, I remember reading that he had a lot of pelvic problems due to his playing style, the constant swivelling to change direction resulted in a lot of wear and tear. I think that was the main reason for the painkillers. I suspect he'll probably need hip replacements eventually.
  3. Is that the same stadium that the men will paying at? Pitch is an absolute disgrace, looks like a ploughed field.
  4. Based on his previous track record he'll have fallen out with the manager by then.
  5. Darren Fletcher wasn't captain of Man Utd and I doubt anyone would cast aspersions on how he carried out his duties as Scotland captain. At international level you should really have multiple "captains" on the field anyway, to get to the point where you're playing International football you should have something about yourself. The most important things are that they have the respect of both the squad and the management team and also that they are going to basically be guaranteed picks for the team as dropping your captain is a bit of a no-no. It probably suggests that McLeish has in his mind that involves playing both Robertson and Tierney - who are probably the best outfield players we have - and it also suggests that Mulgrew will probably be eased out of centre back over the next 18 months or so.
  6. T I didn't say I was insulted, I said you were resorting to insults. There is a difference you know.
  7. Sorry to disappoint you, I'm far from raging. As I said before, no problem with the result, better team won. You clearly don't know anything about me if you think I was one of those who applauded the team in Portugal. I was out of the ground within a minute and I think I was one of the first back on our bus to Faro as I was full of the flu. Are you incapable of having a debate without resorting to personal insults?
  8. In my experience they don't do laps of honour, they do that thing where the all hold hands and then raise them in unison. At least the Liverpool fans had the decency to be embarrassed by that when Klopp tried to introduce it.
  9. Really, the challenge was "I guess you don't watch much German Football?" I'm a big fan of German football and have been going over there regularly for the best part of 20 years and have been to plenty of clubs other than St. Pauli and Dortmund. I've think I've a pretty good idea about what German fan culture is. That works well for them, I don't see why people feel the need to try and import that into our game but that's just my opinion.
  10. So Celtic are a German team now? No complaints about the result yesterday, better team won. Teams win, teams lose, teams draw. Probably been to a lot more games in Germany than you as well.
  11. That makes it even worse. I thought Celtic were supposed to be a big club. Laps of honour are for when you actually win trophies.
  12. Lap of honour after a 1-0 win, what an absolute beemer.
  13. Without seeing the detail of the deal - which no-one on here has - I'd imagine it would have been a permanent transfer in all but name. In England they moved the transfer deadline to early August but had the loan window open until the end of August in line with the rest of Europe. Clubs will be putting through what would normally be a full transfer as a loan with an "option" to buy in January but in reality there's no way the option won't be exercised. As for not having time to get a replacement in, that's a factor of deadline day deals (c) Jim White. The upside is you can often get over the odds for a player depending on how desperate the buying club is.
  14. @ATAC might be able to help
  15. Homesick after a day? Nothing like giving it a go is there? Speaks volumes about his attitude for me. We'll never know if he was or wasn't very good. He certainly had potential and was a stand out in that youth team at the time.
  16. Just having a look at the Chelsea squads for the 2012 and 2013 youth cup finals which they won and which Feruz played in. .Obviously some have fallen completely by the way and are plying their trades in the lower leagues which is to be expected but it's worth bearing in mind that at that time Feruz was considered as "one to watch" from this squad. Here's some of his teammates. Andreas Christiansen - 20 caps for Denmark, spent two years playing for Borissia Monchengladbach on loan, now a first team regular at Chelsea. Lewis Baker - two years on loan at Vitesse Arnhem, followed by a year at Middlesboro and now at Leeds Ruben Loftus-Cheek - 8 England caps, spent last year on loan at Palace. Ola Aina - 5 caps for Nigeria, played 44 games on loan at Hull last season, now on loan to Torino. Nathan Ake - 7 caps for Holland, first team regular for Bournemouth. These guys represent the level that Feruz should be at now.
  17. He's had a great opportunity and has blown it through lack of application and effort. If he'd done his cruciate or something and been out for a couple of years then you might have some sympathy for him. It's very difficult to break through at a club like Chelsea but even if you can't break into the the first team, if you work hard and do the right things then it's very likely that you'll go on to have a successful career at another club. Read the details of his loan spells here and tell me if this sounds like a guy who is applying himself correctly https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_Feruz. Fair enough, a manager might not like you or you might have a bit of bad luck at a club but not every single one. What says if all to me is he gave up on a loan move after a couple of days because he felt homesick and then he did the same thing again.
  18. Who would take him? The guy has hardly played any football whatsoever, he's lucky if he's played 20 games in the last four years or so. Every loan move has been a disaster for him. I don't think he'll be in any position to dictate what his wages will be. He doesn't even have the excuse of having his development impacted by a serious injury. He's a complete waster. He'll be out of the game completely in a couple of years.
  19. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised at that either but I still think he'll be in the development squad for another season then go on loan to a decent championship or lower premiership side.
  20. At Chelsea he's only a year ahead of his development, normally this would be his last season in the U18s. That's encouraging but its not that out of the ordinary. There's nowhere else to go after the U18s, there's only the U23s or out of the door. He won't get a full cap until he plays first team football somewhere. I don't see him doing that until season 2020/21 at which point he'll be 19.
  21. He's only just turned 17 so I think it might be another season before he gets loaned out. That said, he does seem to being fast-tracked a bit both at Chelsea and by Scotland. In common with most English clubs, Chelsea has two Academy sides. The U18s which Gilmour was playing in last season and the U23s or development squad. I wouldn't read too much into him being promoted to the U23s in itself, because of the way that Chelsea operate their youth system, pretty much all of the players in the development squad are 18 to 20 and its the next step before going out on loan. It's generally at this point that they'll decide whether or not they have any sort of chance and you can usually determine that by the clubs they go to on loan. The general pathway at Chelsea is start in the youth team then get promoted to the development squad. Players who look promising at this level will generally get called up to the bench to play in the early rounds of the League or FA cup and they may go on the pre-season tour. Those are the next things to look for with Gilmour as to his relative development in Chelsea. Whether he can break in to the first team squad at Chelsea - which is very very difficult - if he's good enough and can stay fit, then he'll be prepared for a career at the top level elsewhere. Personally, I think its more encouraging that he's jumping from the U18s to the U21s with Scotland and skipping the U19s. He looks like he has a real chance, largely because on top of the talent and potential he seems like his head is screwed on, but there are lots of things that could go wrong for him many of which he might have no control over.
  22. I've actually seen him play. Two years ago Maidenhead played Reading U23s in a preseason friendly and McIntyre played a half - Reading fielded a different team in each half. There were a few players from the Scotland set up involved but he really stood out. Especially when I found out he was only 17 at the time and was playing against a strong men's side. Looked composed and good on the ball, a touch on the short side for a CB but I think he's grown a bit since then. I marked him down as one to keep an eye on, I think he's been hampered a bit by injury but Reading gave him a new contract in January. Glad to see he hasn't completely disappeared.
