  2. I think you are correct, but some people seem to think we’ve already qualified. Still work to do.
  3. Adams played at the Euros and failed to hit a barn door!
  4. I don’t have a problem with this. He’s probably competing with Anderson for a place in the squad, and fairly soon, Doak. No sign of the players being pissed off when Anderson was selected. I think we’ll usually play the 5-4-1 so most likely we’re looking at impact subs. That will change when Robertson is missing or retired.
  5. McGinn will be remembered as a true Scotland great, as will McTominay and quite a few others in this team. McFadden, Barry Ferguson, Brown, Fletcher etc must be gutted they missed out on this era, as instead of 2 or 3 standouts, we’ve got more than 11.
  6. Being somewhat long in the tooth I can’t discount Scotland getting zero points from the next 3 games. I’m happy to say though that this is the best Scotland “team” of my lifetime, and I think it will get a fair bit better still.
  7. If Norway win their remaining games they’ll have 16 points. If Spain win theirs, bar the Norway game, they’ll have 18. If we lose our remaining games we’ll have 15. Sobering.
  8. The Scotland midfield is also very difficult to break into. We were in far greater need of an attacking player. I’d much rather have Anderson than Hackney. Hackney did nothing in our u21s.
  9. He’s a good player with plenty of energy but miles off a squad place given who we’ve got nowadays.
  10. Spot on. 21 year old EPL first team player at one of world’s richest clubs chooses Scotland and people think he’s not committed. He could have hedged his bets and chosen nobody for the next 3 years, but he didn’t.
  11. Anderson is nothing like McGregor. He’s an attacker in the Ross Barkley mould. I think there is a lot more to come from him, he has great feet and is a very strong lad. Doak will be next, and I think next season Rory Wilson will get in.
  12. McTominay was captain in a recent friendly. I don’t see why he needs to move. He’ll probably start 20 games next season and play in 35. He’s doing great for us and it’s probably in our interests that things stay the same. I don’t know if Neil Lennon permanently wrecked Tierney or if he is capable of playing a full season. He’s currently sensational for us so I’m not too bothered about that one either.
  13. I would say the current one and the 150th are the best of those.
  14. It’s not as far as Dubai. Footballers seem to have no problem going there, tacky hellhole that it is.
  15. He’s played in 2 EPL games and 2 FA Cup. He’d need to have trained with the first team a fair bit to do that. Anyway come next summer he’ll be a full first team player for club and country, of that I’ve no doubt. He can make and score goals on his own and that’s probably the one thing we’ve been lacking. He’s 18 in November.
  16. I don’t think it’s correct to say Doak isn’t a Liverpool first team player. He was, then he got injured. I’m fairly sure he’ll be a Scotland player by the end of next season. There’s a chance he could be joined by Rory Wilson if he finds first team football. The two positions we need to reinforce probably have our two most promising players.
  17. They haven’t really achieved anything yet. I said I had more faith in them (to be better than previous squads). They’re not there yet, but I have faith. I thought Clarke was far too cautious at the Euros but he seems to have learned from it and the squad is quite a bit stronger now.
  18. Squads in the 70s and 80s had great players but there was something not quite right there. I have much more confidence in this group of players than any other in my lifetime. I expect Doak, Lowry and Wilson to make them even better in the not too distant future.
  19. Very sad news. He was a great man and a very good manager.
  20. Smith was quite clear there was only one offer that could have made him leave. Slagging off the dead and laughing about molesting women, it’s been some week for you.
  21. As much as I rate Hickey, I think Patterson is a better defender. Hickey (and Robertson) were beaten too easily a few times the other night. We can’t afford to let crosses fizz across our 6 yard box at that level.
