  1. Good to see some support for Patterson. He really seems to get it tight on here and it’s absolutely ridiculous. Because Hickey is good, Patterson must therefore be bad. He’s a young defender playing against some of the best players in the world and he’s doing absolute fine. We’re lucky he’s Scottish.
  2. I guess it depends how much he wants to go to the Euros (all other things being equal). Southgate needs to pick 23 players and there won’t be too many slots available for new caps. Decision time for quite a few players.
  3. I think I’d be asking Harvey Barnes. If we’re going to have a punt on Livramento and Gordon it should be now. Neither will be going to the Euros with England. Also, if we were to have a wing back such as Patterson or Livramento, what are the prospects of Hickey playing as the right sided centre back. i.e. Hickey, Hendry, Tierney? Is that sufficient aerial ability to deal with corners? I think Hickey is tremendous but I’m not sure wingback is optimum for him.
  4. Livramento is a player we need to approach ASAP.
  5. Irrespective of results either way, that Hungary team had some very good players in it and they moved the ball about with ease. That said, in the last 10 minutes or so, after Mebudi came on, we played with a lot more freedom and Hungary were hanging on a bit. Results are very erratic at that level.
  6. I’m not sure how many games Bobb has had for Man City but he was outstanding for Norway and will reap the benefits. No reason we couldn’t do the same with Doak.
  7. Josh Doig could be an option for LCB if Tierney out.
  8. I’d swap Porteous and Hendry around, but otherwise happy with that. That said, McLean, Ferguson and Armstrong have strong claims for a start. Brown also looked good v France.
  9. I think that’s a bit harsh on the players. It was a fairly even game when it was 0-0. When we went 2 up it becomes ones a backs to the wall with the hope of hitting them on the break. It’s not really possible to keep possession effectively when all the players are sitting deep. It was a tactical decision and arguably it worked. Some good defenders in that team, too.
  10. I’m impressed with Cameron from Dundee.
  11. Agree to an extent, and that could well happen. A first team game every 3 weeks with u23 games to maintain fitness would be fine. We need a wild card.
  12. Doak is in, that’s why there’s one fewer defender. Hickey and Tierney are versatile enough to shuffle around, plus if there is a crisis we can go to a back four or use McTominay. Doak salvages games or wins them in the last 15 minutes. At least that’s the plan. Let’s see how he does tonight against top class opposition.
  13. Important to note that Doak will be playing tonight for the u21s away v Belgium. Live on the Scotland National Team Youtube page. This is the sort of game for him to stake a claim for the Euros, along with the Nations League and the odd EPL game.
  14. I think McCrorie should go for the experience. We don’t need 3 keepers (but obliged to select them). Surely McCrorie won’t be at Rangers next season. Still time for Doak. It’s obvious we need to have the option of blistering pace off the bench. I’m sure Clarke would have put him on last night if he’d made the squad - much like he did with Shankland.
  15. 23 man squad Gunn 1 Gordon 2 McCrorie 3 Hickey 4 Patterson 5 Robertson 6 Tierney 7 Hendry 8 Porteous 9 McKenna 10 Gilmour 11 McGregor 12 McTominay 13 McGinn 14 Armstrong 15 McLean 16 Ferguson 17 Dykes 18 Christie 19 Adams 20 Doak 21 Brown 22 Shankland 23
  16. Two games in a row McLean has been our best player. He gives good balance on the left and is a good all rounder. Patterson was great going forward, and I’ve no fears about him especially with three at the back.He was at fault for second goal but that can be coached out of him. Shankland should start on Sunday. A bit like Griffiths, he’s done the hard work and now has a physique suitable for top level football.
  17. Not sure I follow your logic there. Hickey could play right back and Livramento right midfield. As was said, you can never have too many good players.
  18. Apparently Livramento can play further forward, also.
  19. Archie Gray probably has the greatest Scottish pedigree out of any player out there in terms of family achievements. He looks a tremendous talent. The prospect of Gray and Gilmour in the same midfield is mouth watering, but it doesn’t look like it is going to happen.
  20. Footballers are grown men and know all about competition for places. I don’t think for a minute Clarke would let players walk into a side. If they show in training that they are clearly better than the competition then that is a different matter. Players can accept that. It’s a bit like when people complain when a 26 year old that always turns up for squads is overlooked for an 18 year old who is better and goes straight into the first 11 in his first squad. Harsh, but that’s the nature of the game.
  21. I still hope he can do something. Imagine that pace and power with an end product.
  22. Dykes takes half chances, he’s bailed us out on numerous occasions. McTominay would be fine as a second striker but not as a lead striker. He doesn’t have the hips for it with his back to goal.
  23. Injury mainly, but he was a midfielder.
  24. McCoist was more than a poacher. Very strong on the ball, great with his back to goal and could link up play. Scored a fair few from outside the box as well.
  25. I don’t think anyone is saying Wilson is ready yet. I’m fairly sure Villa want him to develop physically over the season as he gets older and then put him on loan next season. I’d certainly put Doak in, as it’s a long way till June for a 17 year old and he’ll have improved by then. He’s already got the physique to play. He could make an impact as a sub at the Euros even though he’ll get way better in the years to come.
