  1. For those staying at home, the coverage starts on Channel 4 in an hour.
  2. From Twitter: So, Portugal are almost certainly going to be in Pot 1, whilst England and France are very likely to be there. The final two slots are realistically between ourselves, Belgium, Croatia and Hungary - of course we'll have to actually win our group before worrying about that. For the play-offs, they think it will be: Path A - Poland, Wales, Estonia Path B - Bosnia Path A or B - Ukraine, Iceland, Norway, Slovenia Path C - Georgia, Greece, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg
  3. Our side last time we played England: Marshall O'Donnell - McTominay - Hanley - Tierney - Robertson Gilmour (Armstrong) - McGregor McGinn Adams (Nisbet) - Dykes I think Gunn is an upgrade on 2021 Marshall; Hickey and Patterson are improvements on O'Donnell; Porteous and Hendry are better than McTominay (at CB) and Hanley. The midfield/attacking shape has changed to two AMs; one striker; I think that block is slightly better than 2021 and the change in shape allows us to control the midfield more effectively in matches.
  4. Aye, and we lost in 2013 for the English FA's 150th anniversary.
  5. I think these are the right sort of friendlies for us, given our current situation. If our objective is to get into the knockout stages of the Euros, which it should be, then these are the type of sides we need to be able to compete with (even if these are sides who should beat us on paper) and they'll provide a good understanding of what our level is. We should learn a lot from these friendlies, which will hopefully put us in a better position for the Euros (assuming we don't mess qualifying up now) and Nations League A (after the Euros). As others have said, I'm happy we're playing them after the qualifiers - as I wouldn't want to expend all our energy on friendlies and have that affect our competitive matches (even if we're 99% of the way to qualifying now).
  6. This. He's played in a full international for another country; that should be the line - even if he remains eligible under the current rules. I'd rather we gave players who are more committed to us an opportunity before turning to those who committed to another country before us, especially as you've got to think he might decide to not to play for us if we start declining. Also I'm a bit uncertain where he'd even play, unless there is serious consideration to changing the system; attacking midfield?
  7. Of course. It wasn't a criticism of the performance, merely an observation. The result was never in doubt after that first half; there was little point expending energy unless we needed to, especially in the heat, or risking injuries/suspensions.
  8. Just had a look at competitive results of European nations since Euro 2020: Scotland - Pld 19 - 2.42 points per game Portugal - Pld 23 - 2.17 ppg Netherlands - Pld 23 - 2.17 ppg France - Pld 25 - 2.12 ppg Germany - Pld 17 - 2.06 ppg Croatia - Pld 25 - 2.04 ppg England - Pld 23 - 1.96 ppg Denmark - Pld 21 - 1.95 ppg Serbia - Pld 18 - 1.89 ppg Israel - Pld 16 - 1.88 ppg Russia would be second, but I excluded them as they've only played seven competitive matches; all other European nations have played at least fifteen. It's an incredible record we've got now.
  9. Not the most exciting second half to say the least, but that result was never it danger.
  10. HT and it's comfortable. We've just to avoid doing anything stupid now: don't pick up any unnecessary yellow cards, don't have anyone sent off, etc.
  11. For possibly the first time in my life, we've got a side that has no obvious weak areas and has the ability to perform well in different situations.
  12. Apparently, we've won ten qualifying group matches (ie. qualifiers not including play-offs) in a row. Since Euro 2020, we've played eighteen competitive matches, won fourteen, drew one and lost three (scored 31, conceded 13). Can't imagine there are many sides with a better record than that. Our friendly record is atrocious though - of our last fifteen: won two, drawn four, lost nine (scored 10, conceded 24). The wins were Hungary and Luxembourg (both 1-0). I'd rather our friendly record being crap than our competitive record mind.
  13. If we've already qualified, suspensions might not be the worst thing. It could allow us a greater opportunity to have a look at players like Doig, Ferguson and Turnbull (among others) in competitive matches. Perhaps trying Hickey at left-back, with Patterson at right-back, if Robertson gets suspended.
  14. Beating everyone but Spain would do it.
  15. Apparently he's only made seven saves, with only two of those efforts coming from inside the box. That's a huge credit to our defence which is a complete world away from what we had four or five years ago.
  16. Four games; four wins. Only one conceded and that was from a penalty. Beat Cyprus in September and that could be us qualified. The England, Spain and France matches will be a good indication of how far we could reasonably get at the Euros (if we don't fuck this up). If we keep performing as we are, we could really do something special in Germany. This team has to be the strongest we've had for decades - perhaps since the early 90s? With the quality of some of the younger players, there's no reason we can't sustain this either.
  17. McLean replacing Gilmour - great game from him today.
  18. Tierney, McGregor, Dykes off; Souttar, Jack, Nisbet all coming on. Would still like to see Ferguson come on.
