  1. Strange to see so many anti-friendly posts considering how rare they are these days. I'm not sure the drop-off will be as they have been before, we're now seeing more competition for places across most of the pitch - which feels rare for a lot us - so there will be plenty of players looking to cement their places.

And I'd much rather try new players / tactics etc in a friendly than a competitive game too.

Miniscule in the grand scheme of things so will all just need to wait and see what happens.

TBH, I'm delighted at that as I had it down as a loss.   All the ingredients were there for the Tories to take it.   Long standing incumbent standing down, big leave area, Tory MP since 2017 and increased majority in 2019.

I'm treating it as picking up a seat.

I thought Tories would have taken this one too. A lot of far-right sympathisers up there. Swings and vote share is all good but the win is what actually matters.

Can you imagine if Corbyn had overseen 100'000 deaths?

They would have been calling for him to be imprisoned.

And only yesterday we've seen his successor suck up to the PM in justifying his trip to Scotland. Someone who has had the virus doing non-essential travel in an area that's devolved. Nothing more than an attempted PR stunt. Although it's probably added a few more % to Yes for independence.

A culling of Tories, falling behind Labour.

"The poll, by SavantaComRes for The Scotsman, puts the SNP on course for a comfortable majority at the Scottish Parliamentary elections in May, with opposition parties failing to make a dent in the overall support across the country for Ms Sturgeon’s party.

Pollsters interviewed 1,016 Scottish adults aged 16 or over online between January 8 and 13 for the survey." (Scotsman)

The Dross effect working well I see. Although will be interesting to see how Labour's Northern Branch vote holds up in the next round of polling now they've got rid of their manager.

    82 / 129 pro-independence an encouraging majority.

  5. 1990 World Cup Final I think is my earliest football memory, West Germany v Argentina. Picked back up again around Euro 96 and World Cup 98 before starting to become a regular from 2002 for Euro 2004.

    Thought this was pretty interesting:

Sir Patrick did point out the 50,000 figure was not a prediction. But it was used in the knowledge it would grab the headlines.

Why? One person close to the decision-making told me it was about influencing behaviour - to try to persuade the public to redouble its efforts

That projection is miles off where Spain and Italy are but reading between the lines loads of folk have thought 'f**k it!' since Dom went Durham.

It's a bit 'Ministry of Truth' for my liking though when the scientist is bullshitting people to scare them back into line.

There was a guy called Joseph that was kicking around Germany the first half of the 20th Century that used to come out with stuff like that.
