Anybody give a heads up about the buses from Larnaca to the game. Time, what bus number everybody is on etc. Haven't seen any details anywhere yet. Cheers.

Davy posted this on facebook this week:

Currenty I am in deepest darkest Lake District with no phone signal so I have updated the list but will publish midweek when I can access online banking to check all payments.
🇨🇾Awaiting Cyprus Polis to confirm times for escorts tomorrow and as soon as I have the details I will publish departure times with a Google Maps Pin for each location.
🇨🇾2nd bus running from Protaras via Ayia Napa. Both Protaras buses will join the Polis escort from Napa.
🇨🇾It is looking like the Larnaca pick up will be a rolling 2 buses at a time pick up outside the Meeting Pub on Finikoudes Avenue (Larnaca Seafront). Please listen for you bus being called and embark asap.
🇨🇾 38 buses currently booked and paid for. Thank you for your support.
🇨🇾All those wishing to travel down from Nicosia will be given instructions to go to the bus park in Nicosia for the journey to Larnaca.

I know this is me being a bit of a grumpy bastard as a result of the news, but should the SFA really be leading the email title with selling women’s tickets as opposed to the much more significant news of the venue change?

I actually deleted the e-mail when received based on the title. Now retrieved.

    Piss poor from the SFA!

  4. Straight sets for the first time in months!

Think the masters format, 3 sets and a recovery day between matches, could better suit Andy’s current physical condition.

Hope it’s an early slot against Draper on Monday given the time difference!

  5. A fairly routine first set from Andy.
For once, a wee bit of fortune with Carreno Busta calling off and lucky loser Albot drafted in at the last minute.

A quick match for a change?… Draper waiting in the 3rd round.

I wouldn't mind us having a few friendlies during the World Cup to bed in a few of the inexperienced players, even if they're officially B team matches.

There's a list of decent teams who haven't qualified who would provide opponents who are (broadly) around our level, or better, from different parts of the world - avoiding teams we've played a lot recently:

    • Northern Europe: Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Northern Ireland
    • Central/Eastern Europe: Hungary, Georgia, Bosnia, Slovakia, North Macedonia, Slovenia
    • Southern Europe: Italy, Turkey, Greece
    • Africa: Algeria, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Egypt, Mali
    • Americas: Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, Chile, Venezuela, Panama, Bolivia
    • Asia/Pacific: Jordan, Iraq, Oman, Uzbekistan, New Zealand

Of course, what we're, and any potential opponents are, able to do depends on whether clubs would allow for their players to feature in any match.

If we played a friendly against the United States in the UAE, for example, we could play additional friendlies there; some against other countries playing against qualified teams in pre-tournament friendlies. A training camp could be arranged also.

Playing against some non-European nations would be a good experience for our players.

I assumed FIFA wouldn't allow friendlies that clash with the World Cup?

If games are allowed, makes sense to pick at least one opponent who hasn't qualified. Wouldn't imagine the clubs would be too happy though.

  7. Although I think there will be some sort of friendly in November, the window is limited.

Scottish Premiership / English Premier League / Championship all break up on 12th of November. The World Cup starts on 21st of November (24th for the last first round matches). Can't see any qualified country wanting to play a match less than 7 days before their first competitive match, so we may play a match on 15/16th against a qualified side and that's it. I suppose we could also play a match at the weekend (18-20th) against another side who failed to qualify.

Wales - Austria should definitely be postponed to align with our game.

The intensity of a WC play-off game will be massive and difficult to recover from - physically and mentally - to go again 4 days later. If we were having to do that but the opposition weren’t, it would be a massive disadvantage.

Disagree. With that scenario, Wales / Austria would be disadvantaged in the not too unlikely event of us ultimately getting a bye to the final. It would also involve potential disruption to their NL opponents - France, Denmark, Croatia, Belgium, Netherlands and Poland.

Keep it simple, Wales v Austria to go ahead as planned. There will be people unhappy with whatever decision though.

  9. Strange that the postponement is only being mentioned in news outlets. There's been nothing official from FIFA / UEFA / SFA ?!?

If Ukraine have requested a postponement it absolutely should be granted.

To minimise fixture disruption, the semi-final should be played on the 7th of June and the final about 18th of June, extending the international window by a few days. Our NL home fixture can be played at any point in the future - all other matches to be played as scheduled.

I wish I could see the Scottish booster numbers, the English ones are not looking good(not happening fast enough) and cases are tracking so high for so long (area under the graph as opposed to height of the graph) we'd have 4 times as many people in hospital (if conditions were the same as last winter peak).

There's a real chance of this turning grim again especially down south. Scotland does seem a lot better but hospitalisation have turned up again from a minimum last week. We do see seem in better shape but could get dodgy.

Basic Scottish booster info. in the dashboard vaccinations tab:

    https://public.tableau.com/app/profile/phs.covid.19/viz/COVID-19DailyDashboard_15960160643010/Overview

    457,915 doses up to yesterday.

But they've also said the levels can be revised

And they will be revised, but a quick look at the strategic framework update document suggests the levels will be tightened if anything. Example - to be in level 1, the case criteria was previously 20-75 weekly cases/100k it will now be <20 weekly cases /100k.

So essentially there is fuck all difference between them except you MIGHT get a haircut and a pint a couple of weeks earlier if you live in england but again the key word is MIGHT.

I think there's more than a couple of weeks difference with regard to a pint. All being well, Scotland could move down to level 3 restrictions during the last week in April - no alcohol anywhere in level 3!
