Agree with a lot of that. Someone wrote on here recently that the SNP have attracted socialists as opposed to creating nationalists and that could be pretty close to the truth. The centre right electorate is far larger in Scotland than many believe - a fair chunk of those would sympathetic to independence. Ultimately, Yes voters from 2014 need to ask themselves which would the they prefer to live in - an independent Scotland with Ruth Davidson as PM or a UK led by Jeremy Corbyn. Only when the majority would prefer the former is independence a certainty.

I'm not sure the peak age is older, just that 'the big four' truly are the golden generation of tennis and their peaks have lasted a ridiculous length of time. Nadal won his first major two days after his 19th birthday, Djokovic was 20 for his first and Federer was 21. The way that they are still at the top (and have consistently been so) after a decade or more is unprecedented.

Will be tough for Murray to still be #1 at the end of the grass season. It was always going to be, but didn't think it would be Nadal challenging for that position. 2605 points of a gap, with Murray defending 2,500 points at Queen's/Wimbledon and Nadal defending zero. A good tournament for Andy, all things considered. Saying he felt tired in the last set, so this 5 setter will be of benefit in the long run. A good weeks practice before Queen's should set him up. I don't think Brexit is that big an issue in Scotland - most people are apathetic. Regardless, almost 600 of the 650 MP's are in favour of the Brexit process and 56% of Scots voted yesterday for parties that will vote it through. It's happening, time to move on and focus on governing the country and Holyrood 2021. That election is massive for the SNP.

For some reason, people really like Ruth Davidson. The SNP failed spectacularly in highlighting to voters that Ruth wasn't up for election and any Tory vote was a vote for that despicable creature May to be PM. That, coupled with Labour looking like a lost cause in Scotland (before last night) pushed unionists towards Tory. For many, unionism is the highest priority.

There's a lot of truth in that. For many, the SNP are now perceived as being a central belt party as opposed to a national party. A perfect example is the business rate reforms, which disproportionately hit the NE. Properties valued before the oil crash and no real mechanism in place to react to huge decreases in business turnover. It also irks a lot of people that Aberdeen City / Aberdeenshire are two of the lowest funded councils in the land - which was fair when the place was booming. Now the area is in desperate need of additional funding and any progressive party (or people) would see that the central government distribution formula needs to be revised. Of course, this would involve diverting some funds from councils elsewhere (including Glasgow and Dundee), are the government brave enough to do what is right?

Is that a real question? Scottish independence or a few more SNP MP's at Westminster? Know which I'd prefer!

I used to think that, but a having a Tory government since 2010 - before, during and after Indyref and Brexit - hasn't stopped their vote increasing to almost 30% and 13 MP's being elected. The SNP need to realise that Tories are no longer toxic to hundreds of thousands of Scottish voters and try to counter that.

It's crazy. Tactical voting at its best/worst. I'm in Gordon and it was traditionally Lib Dem (Malcolm Bruce was the MP for 30+ years), yet this time the Libs haven't campaigned at all and there has been a constant bombardment from the Tories. Tory share of the vote up from 12% to 41% in two years. It's not all tactical though, the SNP vote has slipped, as the Scotland wide 13% swing from SNP to Tories highlights.

True. Looks like there'll be 319 Tory's plus 10 DUP - so 329. Opposition will have 321 less 7 Sinn Fein less speaker = 313. 329 v 313 is just about workable. Shows what a difference the 12 Tory gains in Scotland has made to this election.

Good post. Agree with every point. All focus should be towards the 2021 HR election. There's only a (small) pro Indy majority there at the moment due to a quirk in the system - I think I'm correct in saying that the unionists got slightly more votes last year. A tiny swing could result in a unionist majority and associated referendum veto.

I agree to an extent, but 63% in Scotland have voted for unionist parties - I don't think that that can all be explained by independence supporters voting Labour. I fear support for independence has dipped below 40%. I've certainly seen plenty anecdotal evidence through the views of friends and family. One thing that the SNP have totally miscalculated is Brexit. In the scheme of things, it's way down the list of priorities to the Scottish electorate.
